All wildcat cartridge rodent shoot

Hiding in plain sight. What bullet and speed are you getting out of that?
Dunno yet. The gun isn’t finished. The cartridges in my avatar are dummy rounds. I expect the cartridge to have similar ballistics to a 20 PPC. It has a few grains more capacity but I’m not keen on pushing 30-30 brass too hard. Once it’s all together I’ll definitely post results.

My .204 Wasp is almost identical to Tommie's 5mm Wasp, the only difference being I shortened the neck to .250 which made the case length 1.770. My PD load with my Ruger No.1 with 26" Kreiger barrel and 39-40gr is a little over 4000 fps with either Varget or N140 using R-P 30-30 brass. My Ruger No.3 with 27" Pac-nor barrel runs 3900 with the same bullets and about .5 gr less powder due to W-W brass having less case capacity. I've had the 32gr V-Max up to 4300 but found a very accurate load with Varget at 4175 fps. I've shot well over 10,000 rounds using R-P and WW 30-30 brass in .219 Wasp, 204 Wasp, and .219DW PDK and never had a primer pocket loosen. If these links work there is some pics of the cartridge and rifles.

And Dave was a great help in the design of my reamer. Thanks again, buddy!

Glad I could help. Hope you enjoy your 788 5mm Wasp as much as I have enjoyed my .204 Wasp Rugers.
My wildcat varmint calibers that I have had over the years.
.17 Mach IV Sako L461
.22 K-Hornet Ruger No.3 (2)
.219 Wasp Ruger No.3
.204 Wasp Ruger No 1 & 3
.219DW PDK Ruger No. 1 & 3
.22/38-55 Ruger No.3
.22/.357 Max TC
6.5 Bullbery Imp. TC
The last non-wildcat that I took to the prairie was My Ruger No.1 .225 WW that became my first .204 Wasp.

I have used a few Cat's over the years but only run a few now. 17 Ackley Bee, 20BR and 243 AI. I actually do the bulk of my pdog shooting with the 223.

Calibers I have killed dogs with up to .243:

17 Mach II, 17 HMR, 17 Ackley Hornet, 17 Ackley Bee, 17 Mach IV, 17 Fireball, 17 Remington, 17 225, 204 Ruger, 20 BR, 22LR, 22 WMR, 223, 22-250, 22-250 AI, 220 Swift, 22 BR, 6mmBR, 243, 243 AI, 6mm-284, 6mm WSSM.

One of these days I'm going to get a 20 VarTarg. I think it might just be the best of the pdog calibers out to 300.

Mike.

Been offline a bit... 6x41 Vance began as a concept to shorten a 6/6.5x47 Lap to raise its efficiency. Shortened around .220-.250, it is better described as a long-neck Dasher with a 30 degree shoulder. Near identical case capacity of the Dasher but with the advantage of a .080 to .100 more neck for tension and seating options. Frank is the designer of record and occasionally peruses these forums. It was was rather painful to make brass by pushing back the 6.5s or 243s, or even 308s. Now it is trivial... I buy the long-neck Norma Dasher brass, load and shoot.

I have tried to use a 700 receiver with a 20 Vartarg, my fat fingers don't like that.
I'm gonna move all this over to an XP receiver to try, if that doesn't help, then move it to a CZ 527.
There should be plenty of material to cut down for the smaller receiver.
But with the CZ receiver, I don't have the options of after market stocks and triggers.
There is a lot more options with the 700 platform.

Also Howa Mini and (gasp!) Mossberg MVP 5.56 are 'mini' sized. Jard makes a decent drop-in varminting trigger for the Mossberg MVP/4x4, I do not know if the Howa 1500 trigger fits the mini. One big strike against the Mossberg is lack of parts availability from Mossberg. Stocks are available for both Mossberg and Howa.
