Alex, torque values for $100, please..

I'm looking for opinions on how folks put barrels on actions... Talking about SS actions and SS barrels here.

Question is about lube and torque value, but mainly the torque.. Do you snug them up by hand or quite tight? Torque values if you use a torque wrench...

Jackie, I believe in the past you decided somewhere around 125 lbs ft... If I recall, Gene agreed with that.

Anybody ???? TIA!

There are a some opinions here.

Lucas Red-n-Tacky, or really any good grease, moly or lithium based, to about 75lb/ft.
I used white anti-seize for a long time. Never a problem from any lube I've used in this application. I did like the white, as it is a lot less messy than aluminum anti-seize, fwiw.

I have a case of unobtainable anymore Bond-Loc high temp anti seize that’s worked great. It’s calcium carbonate in a light white grease carrier. Works far better than any copper or nickel anti-size. I use it the shop for anything that needs anti-seize. Loctite I believe offers a calcium carbonate that looks similar. If I didn’t have it I’d use an EP grease like Mystic JT-6 red that I use in the shop on just about anything that needs greased. I don’t measure torque anymore and just tighten about as far as I can go with my action wrenches. Rotation from snug to full tight is repeatable so I just don’t bother with a torque wrench.

When a action face and barrel shoulder is square it doesn't need alot of force to lock it up.tightening it with a six foot bar is just stretching and stressing everything and doing nothing any good.i apply moly grease to the threads and a little on action face.toque to 70ft/lb...one doesn't want the threads galling.

I was guy who started above thread with measurements on headspace change and tq’s. i was using 45 and upped it to 60 with mobil 1 moly red grease based on opinions in that thread. no change in performance observed

I’m a Savage fan. Use plenty of their actions so I’ve looked into many Savage actions. The threads in the action look terrible. So my beautiful threads on a barrel are going into what I think is a mess.
One thing it sure doesn’t affect is accuracy.
I would hope these expensive custom actions threads are way better looking but I’ve never had the chance ( or need) to look.

Comparing a Savage action to say a BAT, is like comparing a Maserati to a Dodge Neon, both will get the job done but the quality and workmanship can't be used in the same book let alone the same sentence.
