Alec Baldwin shot and killed someone on set

Responsibility to who? Perhaps that's their structure within their world, but how does that change in the criminal and civil world? I can't shoot you with a gun somebody handed me that told me it was loaded with blanks and just because somebody is filming it I'm absolved of responsibility.
It is the filming of a movie. The actors are not required to have brains. They just have to look good.

Except he didn't kill somebody in a movie, it was real life. The jerk should have A. not pointed the gun at a human being B. not fired the gun for a "dress rehersal" and C. should have known the status of a firearm in his possession. In the real world, he is guilty, per his own admission, of negligent homicide.

The director, Joel, is a buddy of mine, since High school, our kids go to school together now, I`m glad to have heard that he is doing well and extremely saddened to hear of his coworkers untimely passing.

This baldwin clown is directly responsible for his actions and the unfortunate outcome of his actions. if you don`t know the basics of firearm safety you shouldn`t touch a firearm until you have been taught, simple as that.

My condolences to her family and friends.

I believe the responsibility goes like this. The armorer is responsible for loading the gun. The Director or Assistant Director is responsible for checking the gun before handing it to the actor or stunt man. The actor has no responsibility as he just does what he is told to do.
Mmmm. Not sure.
If an actor was told to drive a car from here to 'there' and someone was standing in the way, the actor would still have responsibility for not driving over the person.

Here is a twist. For close up shots revolvers are often loaded with "dummy" rounds that have a bullet but no powder or primer. If a bullet from a dummy round became dislodged and moved forward into the barrel then the bullet would be shot when a blank was fired.

With a single action revolver like a Colt SAA either the cylinder needs to be removed so the barrel can be visually inspected or a rod needs to be passed completely through the barrel to verify there are no potential projectiles in the narrel.

Or the bullet stayed in the forward portion of the cylinder. Seems possible with a .38 Spl. and light short bullets. Cylinder would still rotate -given the right combination of blank cartridge, bullet, and cylinder lengths.

Latest report is that some of the film crew had been using the firearm(s) in question for "target practice" earlier, possibly leaving it loaded???
Why was there live ammo on the set?
How was there no security over the firearms?
Was there no check of the firearm prior to issuing?
Did Baldwin personally check the firearm (as if he were bright enough to...)
Never point a firearm at anything that you are unwilling to destroy.

Each of the above items are prosecutable.

Responsibility (think wrongful death lawsuit):

First in line is the armorer responsible for the guns. She is a 24 year old newby that thinks loading blanks is scarry.

Next comes the Assistant Director who handed the gun to Baldwin and told him it was a "cold gun".

Lastly is Alex Baldwin who is the Producer and hired everyone on the set.
There is only 1 person responsible for pointing the pistol and pulling the trigger.
Every thing else is just playing the victim and shifting the blame.

Undoubtedly, he will not be charged or punished at all. He is one of "them" and they are untouchable no matter what the crime or wrong doing may be.
I would tend to agree with this statement accept for a possible exception. AB killed the movie’s Director of Photography and wounded the Director – on the holiest of holy ground to “them’ – the movie set. People in the industry who work in the safe, sacrosanct, realm of the movie set are not the forgiving type and AB may find little support from Hollywood as the facts become known. People sickened by the thought of even touching a gun will certainly not abide the thought of pointing a gun in the direction of a movies main creative team and pulling the trigger. There are undoubtedly many people who work behind the camera – and in front of it, saying “that could have been me shot and killed by this unthinking and reckless person”.
