Alec Baldwin shot and killed someone on set

Check out the video in one of the posts above.
In it, a lawyer describes 'involuntary manslaughter' which is a felony in New Mexico. It seems to fit the situation.
From what I remember, a key is whether the person doing the killing took reasonable precautions with a dangerous piece of equipment. But, watch the video.

ETA. Hmmm. I thought the video I'm referencing was in this thread, but I'm not finding it. Here it is

Ill have to google it. Im going off memory from my time in law school, but lots of factors to consider in a case like Baldwins, involuntary manslaughter definitely sounds like a possibility. Like i said I dont practice criminal law, but the charges and elements required for each charge (mens rea etc) will vary depending on whether NM is a MPC or CL or hybrid jurisdiction.

Something I have not seen mentioned is whether New Mexico has any kind of "safe storage" law, typically used against parents when the kids use a family firearm in a crime.

Guns laying in a cart outside the room, could also be an interesting issue for any worker on the set with felony convictions or court orders against access to firearms.

Seems like plenty of possible violations of rules and laws besides just common sense.

In my mind I know he's guilty of killing Halyna Hutchins. Others are also guilty of the cause of her death. My minds made up but....we will all have to accept the legal outcome.

Don Dunlap
Don, I sure would not want you on that jury! Haha if you have your mind made up then you would not be impartial to the evidence admitted at trial, which would get you struck most of the time.

Also, I dont think his upbringing would make him more or less culpable, some of the members here are new shooters (many didnt pick up the sport until they were in their 20-30’s), for that exact reason is why they have experts and consultants on those sets - to make sure things run smoothly.

If everyone on a movie set that includes the handling or discharge of a firearm would just take an NRA firearms safety course and abide by the training these things would be a super rarity.
I think they are a super rarity, considering there are few movies that have NO firearms in them at all.
Secondly, why would you think any of these so called super stars or just stars would ever listen to or abide by anything they are told?
I have no clue what happened on that set but the only thing I will guess at is Alec Baldwin has not listened to nor followed anyone's advice in a very long time.

I have read they are working on the Safe Storage, not a law yet. It's actually part of something called the Denver Accords, a lefty plan to disarm us with 1000's of petty laws and rules. One Example is the recent North Carolina Veto of a repeal of an old Jim Crow law give a Sheriff the ultimate sat who can buy a pistol.

That makes 2 of us! He's GUILTY!

You won’t see this happen on a set with Keanu Reeves. That man trains extensively and knows how to respect a weapon!

I think our gun trove friends in the niche business of supplying prop weapons to movie sets just experienced the professional equivalent of the table cloth yank trick, where everything but them goes on now, thanks to Alec for pulling the trigger, their young armorer peer, and one assistant director whose mental acuity in yelling “cold gun” as he handed Alec the revolver to practice the draw to the camera, far lags the physical strength he’s been focusing on.

Computer generated images and resin models, blurred and fast motion smeared, to fully come on line now, … like 8 year olds with their video games and cap guns, because that’s all they can be relied on to handle. This will be the industry’s long-term response to this accident and will be thought to conveniently sidestep all safety and legal complications with using real guns on sets.

It's hard to speculate when we don't know the truth of it. We do know that he pulled the trigger and should've never pointed the gun at or near anyone. It's a sad situation all around and they'll make another run at enacting more gun laws. you cannot legislate common sense.

He's acting in a movie. He's an actor. Any idea how many weapons have been pointed at people in all the movies ever made? ( I don't)
Your first sentence is dead on. (no pun)
Whether the public ever knows the truth is another point.

And that he is a loud mouthed bully with money and a real short fuse makes him despicable. Guilty here? Well we're back to your opening sentence.
