Adjusting neck tension

I'm not aware of it having been done. It's a fine idea. I'm aware that there's technology out there that can be quite definitive on this matter. I just don't have the resources to do that detailed kind of research. Loving scientific research as I do, I'd love to actually do it or even see it done. :)
I find that hard to believe, considering the incredible overlap between the precision shooting industry and various precision engineers, mechanics, and machinists.

But I might try it. I will read our work weapons policy again. We all know that a bare piece of brass is harmless.

Something else I wonder about but don't have the means to check. When using a full length die with the expander ball removed, does the leading edge of the neck get a slight curl towards the inside since it's unsupported when started into the die? If so, this would give uneven neck tension. An expanding mandrel should probably correct it.

Also, everyone has different ideas about using an expander. I have tested with and without can can see no difference in runout on a turned neck that I can measure. Some dies may. I only use the Forster with the semi-floating ball and shaft which allows it to self-align. With the ball set as high as possible, a good portion of the neck is still supported inside the die which should hold it in alignment. Mine is set up to only expand about .0015 to .002 with the ball.
