Accuracy in the tac 20

hi
I can get 1-1/8 groups at 300yds with the 40 vmaxs.
Just got in 2 hrs ago shooting airseol spray cans, the silver bottom part) at 250yds. with the 32vmax's behind 25.0gr of RL-10x. I'm a locater tech. and use tons of spray cans a day.,Great targets).

-Are you planning are building or have one in the making?
Let me know if I can help.

The cartridge will shoot with some bit of fussing around....It is not going to be a benchrest winner...It can easily be overloaded to a high pressure condition...I blew a few primers going on some loads I had read about Starting 10% under was not enough to be safe...The bad part for me is the one I have likes the hot loads..Mine is a pac-nor barrel with one in eleven twist & I prefer the Sierra 39 gr bullet..I just started using Tungsten DiSulfide powder to impact plate the bullets..actually I did that back in august/sept & have not got out to the range since..mike bad...My rifle is a little sako varmint..Really neat set up... something I always wanted to have in centerfire 5mm...Since the 5MM Rem rimfire magnum I had as a kid was one mean woodchuck popper..I have been fascinated with that diameter bullet..I would suggest it to anyone interested in using that caliber for varmint hunting..It gives good accuracy & uses less powder than the Ruger 204...My plan was to use it out west for Prairie Dogs on shots under 500 yds..If I ever go out there I belive I will take about 6 rifles ..starting with a 22 magnum rimfire,..222 rem., the tac 20, 22-250 custom one in 12 twist for 60 gr bullets...my 6MMBR..& my 243 winchester..that will keep me busy loading for awhile..mike in ct PS..Accuracy...hummm..I got a few one hole groups but it was hard work...I'd say it consistantly shoots on a dime at 100 yds..I'm not finished with load development yet..I built this to take advantage of the speed & wind cheating abilities of the 39 gr Sierra bullet..That & no muzzle brake is needed to see the hits on targets at 200 yds & beyond...ML

Hi mike
try the 39 sierras with viht 133 if you have some also the 40 Bergers .My tac 20 is a DAKOTA PREDATOR i have just joined a indoor range not far from where i live.2-100 yd tunells perfect for load development.

SIERRA 39 -25.5 gns n133 5 shots .388
BERGER40-25.5 gns n133 5 shots.411
I also loaded 40 Bergers WITH24.8 GNS Rel 10 this powder really had me gob smacked shot 4 into .058 pulled the third shot but still managed 5 for.446.Im still developing loads for this gun but it has potential to be very accurate.UsE LAPUA 223 match brass if you can get it to form your cases trimmed to 1.750.rem bench primers dies from TODD KINDLER.GOOD LUCK.

you are the second guy to tell me to switch powders..reloader ten comes up often also..I may need to start over with the load developement..tough job, but someone has to do it...My buddy john was here in august just to visit & use my short 200 yd range..We had fun but my guns were mis behaving...He liked the tac 20 we were popping off golf ball sized rocks in the 200 yd backstop with no effort at all..So it is going to be easy to target big Groundhogs with this cartridge...I read somewhere the 5mm with the 39 gr boattail outperforms the 22 caliber 55gr BT bullet by some margin...The idea was to get 22-250 performance with less powder so it works in that respect..I have not shot a GH with it yet so I can't say for sure it thumps them with the authority I like..I'll know more next season..in the down time I'll just shoot the gun to test the loads...I love the trigger & sights on that little sako varmint..It was a project I wanted for quite a while...My first thought was to have a switch barrel savage 223 & tac 20 in the same gun..But I had the Sako & it was a one bullet one load gun with the super fast twist..BORING...that & the 223 really seems under-powered on Big Groundhogs...more later, mike
