A pic of a South Bend lathe in Viet Nam

Saw this pic reading an article about the slang we used in Viet Nam. I didn't see the South bend lathe at first. I don't know anything about this bunch other than they are Army. Also well fed and clean. What's up with that? I thought only the Air Force got that kind of treatment. Sorry for the double post.

Bunch of new guys in country. Boots aren't red, jungle utilities aren't ragged, and caps look like they just came from supply.

Those were maintenance guys, likely a sustainment or general support unit, 30/40 level. They likely stayed out of the fight and jungles fixing equipment evacuated to the rear for repair.

I know a guy that spent his entire time in Vietnam in a wood shop building and fixing everything from boats to furniture.
