New Lathe!!!

I have braking resistors on my VFD and I program the braking. I also use the manual braking. I didn't know you couldn't, but it works for me.

It can cause serious problems in some cases. If the drive parameters are set where your not getting inadvertent drive trips from the brake usage your lathe and drive are set where it's not grouchy about it. Also since your VFD brakes are being used the drive is most likely set to brake to stop which is one parameter that must be set if the mechanical brake is used. That eliminates the chance of bad backlash on a trip and over voltage buss trips on the drive which can also send huge over voltage spikes to motors. We battle crane operators that ride the brakes and cause this exact problem....

Should have mentioned that both of my VFDs are on my 2 Bridgeports. No troubles in the last 12 or so years.

VFD are the way to go. I can't even think of the last time I changed belt position on my Bridgeport after putting the drive on it. My ancient lathe might get one some day.

Well I ordered a AC Tech Lenze smvector. It should be here next week. Hopefully I am up and running shortly after that.

Thanks again for all of the comments they have been very helpful.

Indeed, a great buy. I've had a Heavy 10" since 1976, and have used it for everything from small parts production, firing pins, all kinds of pins, screws, and barreling work, you name it. It is a real workhorse!

Mines an older, single lever style, and has proven to be a wonderful machine. Back when I bought it, there were no foreign machines that were any good that I ever saw. I scored a 6 position turret for it about 15 years ago on fleabay. It's a great item for many of the gunsmithing tools I manufacture.

Congrats on a great find! Joe
