A new rifle for a good young man

It does give the scorer fits.
How he works the wrong sided bolt in Rapido must be amazing - but then, come to think of it, I don't know what the time limits are. Are there two rapid fire strings, 5 rds ea.? I'm used to BE pistol, Timed is 5rds, 20 sec, Rapid is 10 seconds. Nothing like Oly Quick Fire.

Yeah that is the thing I want to know. How he does that, breaking position and working the bolt. Then getting back on target and scoring so well. Makes me think he may do great things with a left handed rifle.

In cmp rimfire sporter you start standing then get into position (prone) and fire 5 shots in 35 seconds if using a bolt or 30 seconds using a semi auto. We shoot indoors so it’s 50 feet. To score as good as he did shooting a bolt with the wrong hand is a true feat! It would be awesome to see what he could do with a rifle made for him!

Ah so. Similar to the High Power stage of standing to prone.
At my age getting down would take long enuff but getting back up to do it again ?! The rest of the line could take a power nap.

I will let you in on a secret. John doesn't know any better than to shoot this way. I was a Vol. with sportsman's alliance doing trailblazer day where kids got to shoot bb gun, bow, learn about the outdoors. John got his first bb gun at 6, by he time he was 8/9 we paid him $1 for every pigeon he shot out of the barn. We never made accommodationd for left-handedness. If he wanted to hunt with me then he used my gun. His first turkey he shot offhaned with no support useing his dad's 870 wingmaster. The only reason the smallbore gun needs to be left-handed is because at his level even 1-2mm counts. A lot of events are decided by bulls or tenths of a point. Things like staying in position, limited movement, ect become very important.. Shoot he even runs to get a lower resting heart rate, and on match days his diet even matters. No extra sugar, or caffeine and at least 1 banana.

Here is 1 of his first deers on his own. Racks are nice but meat is more important. Saves me money at the grocery store if I have deer in the freezer. John is proud to help provide for the family. 20141220_103640.jpg

An FYI: I've been advised by a Pan Am competitor that quitting the caffeine needs to be done a week or so ahead of time to get it out of the system.... I've never looked into it and no personal experience.
However, I'm thinking wgt training will drop scores. I had an acquaintance at
IU mention to me his scores dropped nearly 10% till his coach figured it out.
Just a mention.....
The running is good.

So being out of shape and slow is better?

I did think, w/o any medical qualifications or research, that running is good. The other, I just related an anecdotal comment. One difference may be the stage of muscular development in a shooters life. His body is changing at an accelerated rate by just being a teen.
There has been a tonne of research done I'm sure and it's out there to read.

Well in the past 2 years he grew 8 inches & put on 28lbs. He sort of plays baseball ( if he doesn't make varsity he is quitting) but they are in conditioning right now,( wts 2x week, gym/outside 2x week) on ave he only drinks 2-3 caffeine a week so giving that up is not hard. He is really into nutrition with matches. We talk about carbs and need for long acting proteins for longer matches. Peanut butter, eggs, meat at breakfast instead of waffles, cereal, pastries on match day with snacks if squadded in later rounds. Shooting has become a way of life.
