Ok, so after church, lunch and necessary youth group Super Bowl party preparations, I found myself with some spare time and 60 degree weather. I dig out my 1982 vintage Ruger M77 in 22-250 that belonged to my grandpa. Granted, it's not a Bat or a Panda or a Borden but, it's still pretty cool.
Here she sits staring downrange keeping a close eye on those rascally clay targets that took up residence on my berm. A little side story: a few years ago when in high school, I tried rifle shooting some. Never could get any decent groups out of this thing. Many variables we're involved but I sought the help of another rifle shooter for pointers. Started with a good cleaning( no borescope though), some new brass and some Berger bullets. It shot o.k. it is a factory rifle after all. I put it away for several years and tried again. It just felt like fighting a loosing battle. Had a smith check the crown, chamber and bedded the lug. After that work, the rifle shot more like it should but I put it away again. Fast forward to sometime in 2018 and I find a thread about 22-250 groups falling apart by jackmaster. So after implementing some of the ideas from Ackleyman such as floating the mag box(it was bound up), some judicious use of jb bore compound, some new brushes and leaving the center screw just thumbnail tight, this is like a whole different rifle!
Oh yeah, I internet searched M77 trigger imrovements and got the trigger down to less than horrific trigger pull. Anyhow, not too bad, especially with a $90 Chinese Tasco scope and a dude that's had M.S. for going on 25 years. It was kinda' like spending time with grandpa, a great afternoon!
