A list of my ACKLEYs what are Ackleys do you like ?

7mm-08Ai
280Ai
260Ai
7x47Ai
In order, the last one only fired one round through it for a test.
Going to extend the neck about .005-.010 and get back to it.
It will be quick and easy fun I think.

I only use one Ackley round now, a 22-250AI in my F-Class rifle.
I have had 257AI, 25-06AI, 260AI and 338-06AI. Of all, the only one I would do again is the 338-06AI and 22-250AI. I still have 2 barrels in 260AI here, a 28” and 30”, but they were comp barrels and are worn out, they still shoot ok, but not match grade.
I thought about a 375AI, but found the 375 Weatherby was easier and dies were easy to get ‘right now’.

Cheers.
:)

223 40 Ackley
22-250 40 and 28 ackley
6-06 Ackley
6 TCU ( not true Ackley )
6 br Ackley
6 mm Rem Ackley
257 Ackley
25-06 Ackley
7 -08 Ackley
30-30 Ackley ( Ardvark)
30-06 Ackley
6.5 jap Ackley
338 Rem ultra mag Ackley
375 Rem ultra mag Ackley
6.5 Rem mag 40 deg
The big ones don't get shot much anymore but were fun .
The ones I like the most 30-30 Ackley, 6 bra , 257 Ackley, 7-08 Ackley and the 6.5 Ackley
Like to experiment?

After a few years of dreaming I finally built a 6mm ackley, 26” 8 twist, sends a berger 95 vld hunting at 3450 with no pressure signs. It is my go to coyote and deer rig. Loving this thing so far- shoots .25 MOA with certain loads.

I have shot several...some good, some not worth the trouble. Among those with which I have experience are …. .220 Swift, .243, 6BR, 6mm Dasher (not a true Ackley), 7/08, 7/57, and .30/06. Of those, I recommend the 6BRAI and the 7/08 AI. Good shooting....James

Ok after reading all listed Ackley cartridges , what one would you pick for a f class project ?
I can't take much recoil anymore so let's say 7mm being the max .
Thanks .

I have a .250 AI in a XP100R for deer hunting. I can use this a shotgun zone. 257 AI love this one.
Built a 25-05 AI for my son to use out west. This is a real race horse with Nosler 100gr. BT. my 280 AI I've had for 20 years and is my favorite and a real deer killer.

The first rifle I chambered was a 25-06 AI. Built it on a VZ24 shot pretty good and was flat shooting. I had to sell it years ago and that is one I wished I had back.

I had an old tang safety Ruger rechambered to 7x57AI for many years as my caribou gun. 160gr. NPs at 2940 f/s I took the load out of Ackley Vol.1 and never changed it. It shot clusters. It was mild shooting and relatively quiet. Shot a bunch of Bou's by resting my rifle across the seat of my snowmachine. I remember trying a head shot once. He was broadside and at the shot, he just shook his head and bled a lot, but he did not go down, so I shot him again in the lungs. When I inspected the headshot wound, it seems that the bullet struck just a couple of inches low. It cut his tongue and back molars. I never tried that again! Winter caribou are great eating. When you are cutting them up for the freezer, the meat almost smells sweet.

Have a few other 'improved' cats, but...
.223AI
6x45AI
.22-243AI
.243AI

Next would be a "5x45AI", as Mr Maj fondly likens his .20-223AI...

I really don't see the point of ANY AI unless it is just for amusement because you have run out of interesting projects.
For the most part there is always a larger capacity cartridge in existence if you think you have to go faster. Going faster or claiming more efficiency is about all you get for a rechambered rifle and an expensive set of dies.

Built a 260AI on a Savage action with Brux barrel 8T/30"/1.25 dia. Had a reamer made by JGS with .293 neck and .210 freebore. With RL16 and 150 gr SMK at 2820 fps it will hold a 2-3" waterline at 600. If only I could read the wind better.

If everyone thought like that the world would be a boring place. Of course there is always a larger round if you want to go faster, but if you improve THAT round then it would be even faster yet! Get the idea?

My 260ai is only a 27" with a .060" freebore and it runs 2920 with 140s. Are the 150s that much slower or are you running a node down from the top?

Better brass life, less case stretch...... this is a small perk- but it is still a perk

And gives another reasons to go shooting:):)

And while this may not qualify as a valid benefit- I have yet to meet anyone else in the field or At our range shooting a 6 A.I., it’s always good to talk to people who want to know about, I can still remember fireforming my brass using the cream of wheat method, two young guys were watching me pull the trigger and then a large proof of white and the stink of burning grain- I watched them out of the corner of my eye- they didn’t have a clue what I was doing and I’m sure they thought I was a bit odd. Eventually one came over and asked what the smell was....... conversation started!
