A cleaning question

Confused a little bit on if I need a guide to use with my cleaning rod even though I'm cleaning from the breech. I've heard of using one for the muzzle but not sure about the breech. Also, have any of you guys used Pro-Shot copper solvent IV? It says that it removes copper AND powder fouling. Should I belive this or get another cleaner for the power residue. Thanks.

A rod guide serves two purposes, one is to keep solvents out of the action and trigger and the other is to align the rod in the bore. Only good guides align the rod in the bore,Lucas and TK Nolan come to mind). If you are serious about accuracy and a good cleaning process, you will absolutely need good bore guides for your rifles.

Absolutely you need a rod guide. TK Nolan is probably the best but VERY EXPENSIVE, Mike Lucas makes a very good one but is reasonable in price, Sinclair makes an even less expensive one also.
As to the Pro Shot Copper Solvent IV, it's the only thing I use, and am more than happy with the results. It will eat bronze brushes and cleaning rod jags so be sure to rinse them with water after you use them. This also can be a false positive for copper so be fore warned.
