80 grain matchkings blowup

I was shooting a rock chuck match two weeks ago. A fellow competitor said his 80 grain Sierra matchkings were blowing up. I thought they were a pretty tough match bullet. Anyways I have no idea what his twist rate was, but he was shooting a 22-6mm Ackley. He said there only going 3500 fps. Any body had this happen?

The throat in his rifle was probably toasted causing the blow ups. I've run them over 3700 fps with no problems, but sure can't say that about the Berger 80's as they came unglued at anything over 3200 fps.

Preacher, Et Al can you please explain how a "toasted" throat can cause prjectile blow ups?

A rough throat will tear a thin jacket apart, as will speed.
