7mm08 Remington guys.. help

I thought about the new 6.5 staball powder it seems to get really good velocities in the 7-08

In all my tests with StaBall in the 7-08, 7-08AI, and 308, I couldn't get anywhere near the published velocities before getting pressure signs. Just an FYI.

Before I switched over to the 140 grain Accubonds in my 7-08, I was using the Hornady 139 grain SSTs. I have used H4350 pretty much exclusively for that gun (Browning A-bolt) because it was the most consistent. I am not a velocity chaser. I value accuracy and consistency over everything with my whitetail guns. My load was 47.2 grains of H4350, a Federal 210 primer, Rem brass. I was getting right at 2750 FPS with that load and it consistently shot less than 1" if I did my part (over 50 documented 5-shot groups to come to gather that data).

Best i could get with 139/140 bullets was 2,916 with RL17 out of my 7mm-08AI.
Could have pushed it slightly faster, but that was my accuracy load, and was near the top.
H414 & PP2000MR netted me 2,832.

Again, near the top of my charge.
RL16 didn't do anything to increase velocity. Just changed the felt recoil impulse.
Sharp slap as opposed to more of a push.

Since this is not a "long range" set up per se, the deer does not know if it was hit at 2650 fps or 3000 fps.. 139 gr Hornaday Spire Point/ Interlock has worked well for me for close 60 years.
140’s are not my preference in a 7-08 for hunting, just stating they can be pushed to 3000 fps. And you are correct, a deer doesn’t know the difference but if you find an accurate load at max charge, why not use it ?
My “go to” load for deer is a Sierra 150 GK using RL 17 @ 2825 fps

There is a small gaggle of us here in SC shooting deer that do not run off:

130g Speer btsp
42.0g of IMR 4895
Rem Case
REm 9 1/2
Vel = 3000 out of a 24" Rem 700 barrel
Bullets seated .005 off the lands

Obviously, many bullets and loads work, stuff is not hard to kill, just put the bullet where it is supposed to go.

Sierra 140 over 47.5g WW760, Federal GM Match primer, in RP cases
I haven't shot this one over a chronograph, but 30 years of hunting with it says the deer haven't seemed to notice at either 50 or 250 yards

The 7mm08 dont have to be fast to be really accurate, the load I mentioned in post #2 shot this 5 shot group at 300yds and it will do so every time if I'm not yanking on the trigger or doing something stupid. I havent shot it beyond 750yds but me and a buddy shot that rifle all day going between 550 and 750 and all we did was turn the scope dial.

I'm running Varget and 140 Partitions. I haven't shot this load across the chronograph for some reason or another. But I will say I have a Leupold VX-6 B&C Reticle and this load hits the hash marks exactly at the correct distances. I've said this on here before, I was using Remington brass and this rifle loved 4350 and hated Varget. I switched to Lapua brass and the rifle won't shoot 4350 and loves Varget.

It's always been Varget and 139 Hornady BTSP for me,but I've had all of my reloading stuff packed up for 2 years(sucks I know), so I bought Nosler 140 Accubond loaded ammo and it does as good.

Gun is Stolle Kodiak, 22" Lilja #5 barrel first barrel was 20" The 22 is second barrel. 3X12 Swarovski(probably 30 years old). The gun weighs 7.5 lbs and shoots bugholes. It's been my go to tree stand rifle for 25 years. I don't know velocity( me and the deer haven't really cared). It's my first custom gun and it's always the one I shoot 3 shots at 200 and put it up. Ready to go.

I love the 7-08. Waverly

My 7-08 is about my favorite all around hunting rifle. Loaded with the right bullets it will take pretty much anything east of the Front Range and do it well.
