7mm STW

I am new to the site. I have been reading and reading and reading on advice on a 7mm cartridge. I see alot about 7mm cartridges and their capabilties.. but haven't seen anything about the 7mm STW. Is it not a good round? Is it too much? I have a remington sendero 7mm STW 26"SF. It shoots like a house on fire. The recoil is tough sometimes but I love getting behind it. I am 32yrs old, 5'5", mother of 2 boys. I get behind this rifle every weekend. I load my own rounds. Most of the guys I shoot with won't get behind it, but they stop what they are doing to watch me shoot and see my groups. Where are all the old school shooters? Is it just the newer is better? Also adding, that I do hang on the thin cutting edge side as also shoot .308 bolt rifles and the proud owner of a 6mm BR. My shooting choices resemble a quilt. I love all my rifles. I am a bit partial to the old school stuff.

You've got a great gun and round. It just doesn't get the press that the new fluff does.

Mine started out as the same as yours, but has been pimped out with a Lilja 28" fluted barrel, McMillan stock, and a Mark IV 4.5-14 on top.

I never thought the recoil was objectionable vs the performace produced. Rock on.

That's got to make you smile, when the guys just want to watch.

I have a Winchester Custom Shop 358STA (Shooting Times Alaskan) and have found alot of info on www.accuratereloading.com I would also look on www.LongRangeHunting.com

Maybe in the future I will "pimp" mine out. But as the old saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I am so scared to change anything about the rifle. I want to leave it like it is. As there aren't many floating around in the original conditon like this one when I found it. If I were to come across another at some reasonable price, I may pimp it. But I am so comfortable getting behind this sendero stock its not even funny. I have a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20 on it and am terrified of changing it because I am so comfortable with the setup. I will post pics if I can navigate my way thru this whole download, internet thing. I love my rifle! Tho I have a broke shoulder at the moment, I can hardly lift 5 lbs. I will see what I can do...I have 2 arms. Just b/c I have a broke shoulder, that won't keep me from my rifles.... Laura

Thank you, I love shooting. I have been a bit shy about joining these forums. I only used to read them. Finally got enough gut to join, interact and ask questions. I am sure glad I did. Thanks, Laura

Tangiltows - Why change anything? Shoot that beast and enjoy it. That's a great long-range hunting cartridge/rifle.

Laura,
Welcome to the forum, I have a friend that has several 7stws and loves them.
I watched him put a 9" 10 shot group @ 1k with his under 11lb hunting rifle @ the deep creek range in Missulla Mt. When one of my .300wm wear out I plan on having him rebarrel it to a 7stw. Bummer about the shoulder, its hunting season!

Gotta love those Sendero's, nice rifle and welcome to the site. About 12 years ago I built a 7STW on a Remy action and shot 180 JLK"s out of an eight twist barrel. I did have a brake put on mine, main use was shooting long range at PD's in S. Dakota. What a cartridge!

Just traded for a like-new Savage 114U in 7MM STW. So far I am very impressed with the Berger 180 VLD. Awesome ballistics and superb accuracy.

How did you break your shoulder?

My Remington Sendero shoots 1 hole groups at 100 yds. I load 168 SMK 74.6gr. RE-25 w/a REM 9 1/2. My twist is 1:9.25. About the heaviest I can go is the 168 SMK, tho I have shot 175 gamekings. The rifle shoots like a house on fire, providing I can sit behind it. What twist is yours?

To answer your question.... I got hit by a car. No I was not in a car accident, I was physically hit by a car.
