7mm rem mag pressure

I have a buddy that shoots a 7mm Rem Mag that he just started having problems with. He is shooting factory ammo and having extreme bolt lift problems. I assume this is a pressure issue. My question is....what would cause this with factory ammo. I know he doesn't clean his gun very much (or if at all), so it is hard to tell how many rounds he has shot without cleaning. Could this cause the hard bolt lift? Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this, or knew of any cause. Thanks.

What type of rifle ? Could be grim brass shavings ,etc on cam , or in the bolt , timing issues , crude build up extractor.

Could be that he has gotten some kind of lube on the bullets or in the chamber too. That causes heavy bolt lifts.

Thanks All for the input. I will tell him, but I am sure I will be the one that has to clean it....lol. Gqmac....it is a Tikka T3, I think.

The problem with carbon build up is when it gets to the condition that might be causing your friend's problem, it is no longer soft carbon that comes off with a brush. Repeated carbon build up tends to be both hard carbon and/alternate layers of carbon and copper which makes it very difficult to remove without actually resorting to scrapping. This is why despite how onus it is to clean your barrel, it's always better to clean with a reasonable schedule before it nips you in the butt. It's nice to be able to brag that your rifle never needs cleaning but....

"Could be dirt or rust in chamber."

+1

or a rusty pitted bore. short stroke it with some JB / Rem-clean, and inspect with a bore scope if you have access to one.
