7mm BR

Hello everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I have a Remington XP100 in 7mm BR. Does anyone know where or who I can purchase some ammo in this caliber. Thanks for your help.

You cannot purchase factory ammo for the 7mmBR - I had one of the first XP-100 pistols some 35 years ago... and it was a bitch to make the cases.

Now, there are a few more options. You can make the cases by necking up 6mmBR Lapua brass, but it is still a do-it-yourself project, unless you can find someone to make the ammo for you.

i have a set of dies for 7 Br... if interested you can contact me

there are some 7Br brass floating around now then... making 7Br brass form 6Br is only one step
just run it thru the Fl die....

'by the way' thats a nice peice - XP100

.
Edit.. just noticed your in Raleigh.. i'm down in the Wilmington area ;)

i have had 3 xp100's in 7br, they are great pistols. easy to load for, they are very accurate,
depending on you intended use, target, varmint, or deer.

target/varmint -130 sierra hp pistol -powders vary depending on use, for target, velocity in the area of 2100fps is best, for critters velocity can reach 2400+ easy and be accurate h322 worked for me with 2015 on the faster loadings.

for deer, the 140sbt at 2300 is a sure meat on the table. 2015br and 4895 my favorite powders

i used the Luep 2.5x8 scope and with care it would produce usb 1" groups at 200.

As stated Remington no longer Mfg.'s loaded ammo. You can still buy 7mm BR Rem. brass through Midway USA. I had 2 XP's & converted both to rifles. Based on prices I've seen lately that may have been a mistake ??? I still have some 7BR brass & a Redding die set. Drop me a PM if interested. Good luck!!

Holy moses! I have maybe 100 to 150 of these cartridges in plastic ammo boxes I discovered in the crawlspace a couple weeks ago.

I shot IHMSA with the 7BR for awhile. Actually, I shot cast bullets, which shot very well, with this cartridge. If you want these things let me know. I don't feel like doing the pulldown shuffle, so I would sell them to you as components only, with the understanding that you disassemble them.

Good luck.

Be careful shipping live ammo as that is not legal. The narcs are EVERYWHERE.

Also keep an eye out at gun shows; I was at a small show (~150 tables) about a year ago and there was an ammo dealer there that had some old stuff he was discounting to move; low and behold there were 2 boxes of factory 7BR ammo and the price was right, so I picked them both up on general principles. Can't remember when Remington quit making the loaded ammo, but it was a lot of years back. We'll se if they shoot as well as my handloads did back when I shot IHMSA silhouette one of these days.....

If it isn't legal, how is it that Sportsmansguide and Aim Surplus have shipped me ammo for years? If you package it right and slap an ORM-D label on it, then you are in compliance, yes?

Yes

You can still buy REM 7mm BR brass new from several places. I believe I paid .56 ea. a yr or so back for the last NEW stuff I bought.

I’m in the process of converting a Savage Striker from .308 to 7-BR to shoot lead bullets. According to "Cartridges of the World" the 7-BR is unique because it was a factory cambering but nobody made loaded ammo for it. Remington finally started making unprimed brass, and still does, but all 7-BR ammo is roll-your-own. Midway generally has brass and you can find it listed for sale on http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve

Dave.. you would have to think about that....
"it was a factory cambering but nobody made loaded ammo for it". ???

Remington built a firearm an didn't make ammo ? "7 mm BR Remington (1980–1985)" i wouldn't bet on it...

btw xp100 R... stood for repeater. "R"

Here is a good article on the evolution of IHMSA cartridges and why the Remington 7BR came about.

another interesting artical on the Br....

note:
XP-100 pistols and Remington Model 600 rifles were recalled in the 1979 because of a safety issue. The bolt was fully locked in the safe position, making it impossible to unload the gun while the safety was on. Remington made a free modification available that allowed the user to open the bolt while the gun was on safe, allowing them to unload the gun

there is an error in this article, i was in NY with DuPont(who owned Rem) at the time of the development of the 7br.
Jim Stekle and Mike Walker were active br shooters, and Jim into Ihmsa, - first Jim took the 300 sav and shortened it to 1.5 inch leaving 30degree shoulder, 308 dia, current Br length, it shot well but the heavier bullet seemed too much so he then took it down to 7mm,
The first had large primer pockets and Mike persuaded Rem to make a run with small primer pockets using the win 308 case as a base. - the result was the 7mmbr case with small primers.
Jim first shot the 300 version at Fasett, pa in a br match then the br version i think later at Wapwallopin, pa.

after some time the 6.5 and 6mm version came, the 308s were the first with the 7br a month or so latter.
Bobby and Wally Hart can confirm this timeline as we were all shooting at that time.
