7mm Accuracy?

That is not to say that the BIG 7's are not capable when the winds are light and variable>>just NOT as capable as a Dasher, in 7 out of 10 matches when the winds are favorable..

Hey Ben - this is where we'll simply have to agree to disagree, and was the whole reason I referenced Ken. His 200-19 simply further proved to me, that the 7s, specifically .284 Wins at least, are just as capable as anything else, regardless of condition.

I know I'm stubborn and my opinion is the minority, but I'll stick with it for now. ;)

Mark, I saw Ken shoot that record, and I recall that his first shot was a 10, after which he made a correction and did not leave the X ring for the next 19 shots. The 7mm's can shoot for sure.

Well Mark, when you and Erik and Ken are at a 600 yard match, I absolutely MUST be at the top of my game IF I am to even be competitive! It is y'all that FORCE me to make myself a better shooter.. Disagree or not, y'all have been a GREAT inspiration to me.. Thank You Guys!! It is a pleasure to shoot with some of the best in this business!

A 7mm will not shot for me, God could build the rifle and Jesus could supply the reloading components and I still would be able to get under an inch with it at 100yds.

Now a random guy off the street could pick up a H&R handy rifle and factory ammo, sit down at the bench next to me and shoot a bughole.

The 7's at 600 would have a clear advantage in the wind, but when things are relatively calm (e.g. - when records are set), I don't think they can shoot inside a 6 Dasher, or my favorite 6 BRX (I tied that 600 yd record last summer at a regional, and set the 500 yard record two years before with one).

It's likely that there are 7s that can shoot that tight, but I haven't seen one.

I am going to have to try RL-17! What length is your barrel?
[/quote]

28 in. It was supposed to be 30 in. but something was wrong
with the reamer and we had to get the reamer reground and
rechamber the barrel so I wound up with 28 in.
Brux 9 twist, 1.25"no taper

The 180's grouped better at 2925

The RL-17 can get serious velocity

I reached 2990 fps but SD and Accuracy suffered
I settled on 2925 fps for my load.

I have a 32" 1:9 twist and am getting around 2750 with the 180's and 53gr of 4831sc. Looks like it is time to break out the RL-17. =)

But if you run two 20 shot strings across the chronograph with RL17. One on a cool morning the other during midday sun you'll see why RL17 isn't a popular powder for F-Class.

I don't shoot F-class
so that's not an issue for me.
I'm just trying to compete with some
guys in the area who are shooting ONE MILE.

I just had my 284 re barreled and got it back yesterday. I put my scope on it and sighted it in and did my 10 round break in process and then tested a couple of loads for it.

My first group was my old trusty load of 162AMAXs and it shot those into a .467 the next couple of groups that I shot were 175MKs and the load with H4350 went into a hole just a little bigger than Birddogs group that he posted. I believe it was a .306 and a load with 4831SC was also in the 4s. All of these are 5 shot groups. The 284s will shoot.... PS this is set up as a tactical rifle with a 4.5x14 and a 28" barrel

James Phillips and Shayne Halliburton came over Tuesday p.m. and we shot 1500 yards
and 1800 yards.
James had a 300 Win Mag.
I shot my 284 with 180 Hybrids.
I hit the 1500 yard 18 in plate on the 2nd shot. Then Shayne shot it and he hit on the 5 th shot.
Then James went 2 for 5 with the 284.

Here are the 4 shots on target. The 5 th shot is a 300 WM hit. It is the lowest shot.

We then moved to 1800 yds and shot at a pile of cow bones.
On my 7 th shot I deleted the right bone.
There was one shot that I did not see dirt fly and I think it may
be another hit in the clavicle that just punched a hole through
the thin bone.

Here is a pic after shots were fired

Here are the bones before the shots with no hole in the clavicle
