700p 223

Had one w/20'' & 9twist barrel. 27 pound Accu Trigger. Along with that Hogue lizard skin fleximatic stock, Tis/ Twas the worst handling Remington l have owned... Gave it to my daughter. She loves it because its so QUIET. She can sneak/crawl without stock noise. Accuracy is unimportant. She cant hit a target with anything. No room for improvement. lts always the gun's fault. l just wish l had taken my Leupi Vari Xlll 4.5-14 off it. Wasted a fine scope.

Best I can do for now.
Not sure on the precise time line. I know of one that was purchased about 2010 that still had the long leade. Just seat a 75gr dummy round long and try to chamber it. You'll know.
But for years the macho "huff 'n puffs" whined about the excessive jump in the "P" guns(308 & 223) and how it was detrimental to accuracy. Personal testing convinced me that it probably did help keep pressure down(a consideration if a P-Dept happened to stuff overpressure surplus stuff in the tube).
Considering everything I decided it was mostly malarky. Just one monkey miming another.
They were never designed to compete in bench-rest or the Olympics.
Custom, no.
Perfect fit and finish, no.
But in my experience, if a fellow is a 2moa shooter he will never know if the gun will shoot in the .1s or .5s. But his piss-poor performance will ALWAYS be an equipment shortcoming.
The P guns that I've shot were much more inherently accuracy than the average "gun counter sniper" could ever appreciate.
I know What you mean. I have always thought the knowledge at gun counters was funny. I had a ltr in 308 that I should have held onto. Had had some mixed reviews but that thing shot well for me. I’m not exactly sure why I sold it. I’ve been tossing around the 223 p or just a having a barreled action built. I’ve had a couple tikkas that shot 77 smk very well but had trouble getting them to shoot much else. Anyway thanks for the comments. Actually that goes for everybody. There’s a lot of knowledge on here. Thanks to all.

Great to have choices. Just depends on how big a hole is in the safe, and how much the budget can stand.
If you go the custom route and plan to stretch the distance I’d probably go either 7.7 or 8 twist. They definitely handle the 75s and 80s better. So far I can’t say anything negative about the 223AI with a bit of free bore. The 22 Grendel is also starting to shine.
Just keep the expectations realistic and by all means. enjoy the ride.
