700 receiver SNs

Several online sources. Mostly geared towards using barrel markings to determine year built.

Serial number info in general. Numbers only are early. Single letter prefix came next, beginning with A. The last prefix single letter I’ve seen personally is G.

I think, but not certain that when Remington and Remington Arms were associated the RR prefix showed up. RR with scan code. I seem to think I’ve seen a letter suffix with an RR, or an RAR. RAR being the Remington of new, vice the Remington of old.

The stampings on the barrels are the best bet to narrow down when made.

Stainless action serial numbers are a little different. I’ve seen S prefix span a long time, with just the quantity of serial digits increasing along with production. Then the RR, etc. I don’t know when the earliest stainless action was produced, or if any other serial markings have been used.
