REM 700 VS. 40X

I'm looking for someone to explain the differences of the screw spacing of a Rem 700 versus a Rem 40x receiver. I realize that the spacing is different between a short, and long action 700, but I don't know that of a 40X. I have a short 40X action and will be looking for a used benchrest stock for it. Is there a difference in spacing between a 40X long and short action too? Is there somewhere that I can find this info online?
Thanks

The center-to-center distance of the screws are the same on the 40X or VS short actions. It is true that the magnum 40-Xs use short actions. To remove a .300 Win Mag from the chamber will require removing the bolt.

how did you dig this 11 year old thread out?
I went to the "main message board" and there it was.

There is no problem in responding to old messages. It all adds the the "great knowledge base" in the sky. As a computer tech, old threads can be extremely valuable - just like old youtube videos. Just recently I rebuilt an 1967 Coleman lantern. Old threads are treasures and I will add my 2 cts. too. I hope you understand.

yep i follow a number of old threads here because i want to have access to that info. all of it is the heart and soul of this forum as far as im concerned-- i wasnt griping/whining

The state of the art in shooting is constantly progressing, so be careful with resurrecting old threads. Eleven year old info will be correct in some cases, and wrong in others.
