7-6.5PRCW load data

This sounds like it needs just a few more grains than my 6.5-284 would use. I loved N165 in my 6.5 would it also work in this 7 6.5PRCW cartridge??

53.56 RL16, 180 Hybrids. Pretty moderate wind right to left. Minor mirage. Only 236 hits on new barrel before these shots. As you see from my first 3 sighter/warm-ups it was pretty breezy. I ended up holding over 3/4 to 2 rings after dialing-in some windage in my scope.

The new barrel was speeding-up on me as I expected. So, for the 3rd match I ran with 53.32 RL16. Same wind conditions. Moderate mirage during this match.

Nice shooting, What barrel contour and twist rate?
Thanks! Brux 8.5T, 32", 1.350" x 5" then straight taper to 1.050". I actually ordered a pair with a 1.150 taper but they miss-read the my order sheet. Instead of waiting another 4-6 months I went ahead and kept these with a pretty nice discount. It worked out good for me because this rifle is just barely under max weight with this barrel. :D

That speed window seemed to shoot the tightest on the target pictured in post #2 here also. What sizing die are you using for this cartridge and how is it working for you, if you don't mind me asking?
Short Action Customs 6.5 PRC Modular sizing die with expander mandrel. I was getting quite a few clickers after 2nd firing of my current lot a Lapua brass. Since I started holding the cartridges up in the die for about 3-4 seconds before pulling the ram down seems to have alleviated most of the clicker issue so far.

I think maybe we're meant to run straight .284 speeds and enjoy long brass life. Maybe the ADG will prove different once it's released.

We are making a ammunition pressure test barrel (P&V) in 7/6.5PRC. Barrel finish length is 32". 5R rifling and 1-8.25 twist.

Hornady donated brass and 166/190gr ATIPs.
Sierra donated 183 and 197 matchkings.
Berger donated 180 Hybrids and some N555 powder.

The above was all donated at n/c.

I have some 180ELDM's and H4350 powder for loading as well along with H4831sc. I'll be doing all the loading and supplying all the lot numbers for the powder, primers, and bullets etc...

The barrel needs chamber work and pressure port work done still. Should be done early this month.

Hornady will be doing all the pressure and velocity testing.

This way we will get some good hard baseline data for pressures and velocities.

Hornady is doing all the pressure and velocity testing at n/c as well. I have to make a minimum of 10 loaded rounds per load. In some cases for the more popular stuff I'll be doing more.

As soon as the barrel gets done and shipped and I'll ship the ammo separately and Hornady can get the testing scheduled will have data.

Thanks for doing that Frank. Reamer spec would be great info too.

My rifle is setup as a short action repeater. 22” Bartlein 1-8 twist 3b. Reamer is .045” freebore. Necked down Lapua brass. H4831sc topped out at 59.0gr. 58.7 seemed real stable.

Print copy attached Geno for reference.

Pretty close to the Wheeler drawing. Not a tight neck but pretty close. Based on the ADG brass and Hornady brass I have it should give you like .005" to .006" clearance.

Bullet dimensions are listed for OAL and where the bullets touch the rifling. I don't zero out my caliper for measuring the base to ogive. So if I were to zero it out subtract 1" from the B-O measurement shown on that drawing.

When I load the bullets I will seat them .020" off the lands on all of them.

Tried 162 edlx today. Sadly, it topped out at 59gr just like the 180hybrid did. I’m assuming it’s because of the bullet being so far in the case. I was at 2.868” OAL. So another .080” freebore would bring it to .125” total freebore to make the most use of the case/bullet combo in a SA repeater. That would definitely gain some speed.

58.7gr H4831sc
162eldx @ 2.868” oal
2815fps with .4 sd
