6XC OR 6 Creedmoor

I plan to apply, Joe Hendrick's, "theory" that, he uses, SUCCESSFULLY, on his, 6MM Comp Match Rifles, to the 6MM Creedmoor caliber. The 6 Creed's, approx. .039 longer, "body" has, a little more, powder capacity than both, the 6x47 L or, the 6XC, thus allowing for, the use of, a few grains more of, single base, "colder burning", powder's like, H-100V, N-160, N-165 or, RL-16. Using non-Max loads at, the lower "accuracy Nodes" I should be able to obtain, better bbl "life" for, the type of, Varmint hunting/ informal Target shooting that, I do. I'll also, apply Joe's, cleaning and barrel care technique's, to my 6 MM Creed barrel, to help with that !. I'm hoping for 2,500+ rounds of good, accurate, use. Many major, brass Manufacturers, are "supporting", the 6 Creed's design with, lots of, GREAT brass available and I like the idea of, "Plug and Play" with, NO case, forming, turning, etc. For "sheer accuracy", the 6x47L and 6XC, may be better choice's,.. IDK or, care. For ME, the 6 mm Creedmoor, seems like,.. a "good one" !

6 Creedmoor gives up nothing accuracy-wise to the XC or the 47. They are all accurate. The 6 Creed will run slightly faster at equal pressures.

@JBT ,. I agree with you, I thought, they would ALL be "close", in accuracy.
I have found a ton of loading Data on the 6 Creed from Hornady, Hogdon, Sierra and VV. Since it so popular, AKA "trendy", I think Brass will be available for many years, to come. I'm going with, a 1-8.4 Twist, heavy Sporter #4 with, a .670 Muzzle, 26" SS Brux, to go on my SA L-H Rem 700 that's, pillar bedded in a HS Prec stock. I'm hoping that, the 1-8.4 tw stabilizes, the 105 grain Berg. VLD Target and Hunting bullets (not the Hybrid tho, as it's 1-7 tw) and the 95 Sierra TMK/ SMK's down to, the 80 grain Sierra's. Per the Berger Twist Calculator, that twist, should "do" for all those. Pretty sure, I'll find a couple of good loads, amongst those Bullets.

Get your "Snowball's" ready as, I gotta do, a "Flip flop" back to, the 6XC case as, I just remembered that, I have, a couple of Hundred, older ( 20-30 years old ) but, still New, .22-250 cases ( Win and Rem ) so I will be going 6XC version 1, and I will buy a set of Forster Dies, to "match" said, chambering. When you get "old" your memory is, the first thing to,.. GO ! All of, the above cartridges we've discussed, have their "place" and can "shoot" real FINE if, you choose the Rifle's " build components" and corresponding loads,.. wisely ! I have no need of shooting 1,000 yards or, competing in PRS or, Bench rest, so I am setting my 6XC up for, the 95 grain bullets ( VLD's, TMK or SMK's) to shoot steel at 500-800 yards Max. and one of the lighter 80-90 grainer's for Varmints ! I have learned a lot, from these, discussions ! Some of you, might want to read my post under Rl-16 and the 6XC as, to what I found out about, "freebore" length, Bearing surface and case neck length. I'm pretty sure that, most of the old time, target shooters already know this, stuff but, it was "NEWS", to me! I do like, the long neck length of, David Tubb's 6XC ! He is, a real genius, IMO !

I went with the 6 CM just out of convenience. Readily available brass and ammo.
6CM as in Comp Match? Here's some Alpha 6 Creedmoor brass, Peterson and Starline make 6 creed brass as well.

A repeat of info here but is on topic: Welll, my Bud has been wringing out a dual design effort which took the Palma brass, pushed it back but retained a .400" neck length hoping for less throat wear ( burying the Turbulence Point). He chambered and throated it to accommodate shorter pills.
Using a new X Caliber bbl, 20 pcs of Lap Palma, he has found three nodes using H4350, RL17 and nekkid Sierra 107s- 3050, 3150 and 3270. Lake City will shoot for many, many reloadings @ 3050. The Palma all day at 3150. If 3270, then maybe 4 loadings before pockets are toast.
He measured .0002" throat wear after 800 rds, "had never shot so many zeroes". After 8-900 rds it has fallen off to the occasional zero but ones and twos using 20 rds, only losing one case. He says super easy to tune. I snagged some RL16 but not yet tested. We haven't run any high $$ pills down it.
I'm kinda interested in the 40° shoulder but then we get into the big $$ for die and reamer(s). I'm curious as to how many rounds it will take before it falls waaay off.

I have read many say 6 XC is easier to load for, more consistent, and such, when compared to 6 creed. Curious why that is, assuming its true. I have 1550 on my first 6 creed barrel now and have a few blanks and new action. Considering switching to 6 XC, but trying to determine if the juice is worth the squeeze. My 6 creed has shot great, but I did have to aggresively chase lands every few hundred rounds to maintain the 15 thou jump my 108 elds wanted. Then at around 1200 rounds I ran out of mag room to do so. Thanks for any thought.

I kind of been hearing from local guys not shooting competition that their 6 creeds have been a little hard to tune or seem to loose the tune. So I wonder . I just dont need one, maybe a deal will come my way on one for me to play with.
As far as barrel wear goes I think it is hard to say and how hot and many rounds in a row can eat up barrels and I had a 6 dasher barrel that was kind of toast at 600 rounds I hate to say but barrel steel could be responsible for early wear. There have been barrels in the past that had early failure due to steel and I am sure it could still be a issue from time to time I think. like maybe batch of steel not quite up to spec and needed to make barrels. ah .. I knew a brand I wont mention names and they spec'ed their steel and said they tested it and if did not meet their spec they sent it back and I knew a guy who had one of these barrels in 6ppc and it had 3,000 rounds through it and guys bore scoped it and said no way did it have that many and it was in 3rd place in the SS going into the 4th relay and then a bad group due to shooter and conditions and he was out. I always wanted to try one but never did.

Within the last week I've talked to 3 shooters that have went from the 6xc to the 6 Creedmoor or have both. All 3 say they prefer the 6xc, and the 6.5 Creedmoor over the 6 Creedmoor. WD

Did they elaborate on some of the "whys" of that decision?

Thanks,

George
