6XC barrel specs?

I am researching the 6XC for my next rifle. I am looking to shoot 105gr+ bullets out to 1250yards. This rifle is for long range precision shooting in various positions so a heavy palma would be nice.
The question I have are what twist snd groove does the cartridge really shine?
I have been looking at the pac-nor due to this barrel mating to a savage action. Has anyone used the polygon barrels for this cartridge?

I have one in a Pac Nor 4 groove 1-8 twist SSM #3 sporter contour(6XC) very happy with it. never tried the polygon. I built a 25/06 AI on a Pac Nor 4 grove 10 twist Light palma 28" and was very happy with it. Super accurate and speeds beyond most 257 WM's.

Right now I am thinking a 7.5:1 twist 4-groove in a palma contour at 24" thread for a Impact Precision Shooting break. Any opinions? I believe this would handle anything 105grains and up

Another question is since I am mounting a muzzle device do I still get the 11 degree crown add-on when selecting the muzzle threads?

Does the 24" barrel with a taper to .870" in a 4 groove 7.5 twist seem about right or does 3 groove 8 twist seem better for this round?

To shoot reliably out to 1250 yards you would need something like a 7mm RSAUM with a 30" bbl. The little 6mm's are OK out to 1,000yds but beyond that the 7's shine way more brightly. 8 twist is the preferred twist for 6mm in High Power LR matches

I understand the 6xc is not a great choice past 1000 but if I do compete with it I will be able to spot misses better with it do to the lower recoil and up to 1000 the round is a laser.

I was hitting a steel plate at @ 980 real easy down at Harry Jones last weekend with my 1-8 sporter barrel in 6XC 105 VLD's . it just shoots.. I am working to settle on a load for my 1-7 twist with the 115 VLD so I can print a group or two at 1K...It shoots good but I have not locked down a solid load yet...going to load a mild load of RL26 that has shot well for me and if it's 2,950's I don't care as long as It is consistent. I did push that 115 to 3,150 FPS with RL26 and it had shot decent but was hard on brass. RL17 shot 3,100 hard on brass...but had a light load of 26 that looked good around 2,950...I may have to use the H4350 I have but I am done playing. just want a decent load not hard on the case.
And yes looking forward to get my hands of some NG 115 Dtac's

Anything from a 7 to an 8 twist. Any groove config. First stop would be a stout load of H4350. Pretty easy to get an XC to shoot.

I have both of my creedmoors in 8 twist and I shoot coated DTACS so Im going to say 8 twist.

8 twist is fine. If you want to shoot the 115's I run a 7.5 twist. The 8 twist is to much on the ragged edge. The style or number of grooves doesn't really mean anything.

It'll shoot out to 1200 no problem. I've done it but as suggested the 7mm would be a better choice for anything beyond that and or if the wind gets bad even at 1k etc...the 7mm will have the edge.

Later, Frank
