6x47 Swiss vs 6x47 Lapua

Anyone have any experience with the Swiss? Looks like Lapua's coincidentally very similar in their 6.5 round as the Swiss round.

Anyway, wondering if one can use a 6x47 in a 'NO-Neck turn' set up and get good results?

If you mean the 6X47 L, yes, but.... if you are using a bushing to re-size the necks, the area ahead of the neck-shoulder junction is best shaved off in a neck turner. Also, the neck thickness of the Lapua brass was not consistent at all, with lots of very uneven necks in the last 200 cases I prep'd, so cleaning up the necks buy turning them to a generous .0014 was really important.

The Ruag 6x47 Swiss Match is rumored to have very good brass but you can't get it in this country unless you want to import it yourself. Now that Norma's making 6XC brass and you can neck-down the 6.5x47 Lapua, there hasn't been much interest in the Swiss cartridge.

It's too bad as, among the three cartridges, I personally prefer the 6x47 RUAG because it has a long neck like the 6BR,see below).

Seems like the Swiss would be a natural, IF brass was abundant in US. Seems to KISS vs a 6/6.5 x47L version....

When word of the 6x47 SM hit the streets every one got excited and couldn't wait to get the brass. But it never showed up. Then the LAPUA arrived.

It seemed to me that SM wasn't interested in marketing and selling to US shooters so I figured if they didn't care, neither would I, and I said that I wouldn't buy it even if it did finally make it over here. That goes for fired brass also.

My philosophy is, support them who support you.

The long and short of it is that if Lapua will not make 22-250 brass, what is the chance that they would make the SM?

Two different countries for one thing. And each was developing their cartridge for their particular shooting discipline. Plus LAPUA was already set up to make 6mm BR brass and they must have been looking at ways to use their existing tooling.

But, bottom line is, when was the last time a new cartridge design made as much sense as the 308, 243, 358??

Both were designed for ISSF 300m competition.

Expanding the neck alone to 6.5mm seems to be the simplest way. A bit of capacity is lost by not moving the shoulder forward, but it does simplify making reamers.

Many derivative cartridges have the shoulder moved to prevent accidentally chambering the wrong cartridge, such as .280 Rem. from the .30-06. However this step is unnecessary as the .308 family shares the same shoulder and headspace, yet has no major safety hazard with accidental chambering. The key is to increment calibers so that the larger caliber is too big to even crush fit into the next smaller caliber. For this reason, there will never be a SAAMI ".270 Winchester" as it can crush fit into a .260 Rem. and KB!

I called them awhile back and the lady said they were sold out and did not plan on getting any more.
