Any of the 6mm benchrest bullets will do. I would start with the lighter ones first,65 - 66 grains) and if they don't shoot then maybe try some in the 68 - 70 grain range. If you want to try some live-varmint shooting the Berger 60 grain MEF is a great little bullet. Many loading manuals still list loads for the 6x47. It was a great little cartridge in it's day but lost out to the 6PPC like everything else did. It is a little finicky to load for so if you don't hit on a good combination at first, don't give up.

In 1978 at Midland,Texas Ron Hoehn shot the winning 3 Gun agg using the 6X47 all the way. He was 1 of 2 shooters the other being Harold Broughton the year before 3 Gun winner, 6x47 all the way. Ron and Harold shot the only .2 aggs in the 3 Gun that week. Both these guys could flat shoot. What this means is that both their 3 gun 100/200 aggs were in the .29 range and shot 200 yd groups mostly in the .6 and .7 range. Don't fool yourself .5 groups at 200 yds are hard to come by especially if you are not using a set of wind flags. Todays PPC's in the right hands can shoot a low 2 agg at 200 yds but so could guys in the 1970's with a flooded range of PPC's. This didn't happen until the mid 80's. Good groups at a benchrest Shoot today at 200 yds will be in the .2-.3 range with an occasional .1. I lost an agg to Gary Ocock at Phoenix several years back with a .214X 200 yd agg. Gary shot a .213X agg. Even today shooters struggle at 200 yds to keep an agg in the .2's lots of .3 aggs at 200 yds.

With Remington, Winchester, and Federal 222 Mag Brass large lots of sorting was done to get a few good sets of 20. The rest was either loaded for varmints or sold. Eventually it was found that a few companies like RWS and Herters had some better brass but by that time the PPC was winning over the 6X47 shooters.

And I have to disagree with the last part of that statement. Every so often I see an old timer shoot a 6x47 against the 6PPC and I have yet to see one of them win anything. That may have happened in the 1980s but not in the 21st Century.

I feel no need to correct myself but here I am saying a 6 PPC brass is a slam dunk to prepare compared of the generic 222 Mag brass we had to make 6X47 brass from. Lapua brass makes everybody look like a hero. No need to go through the RWS & Herters brass discussion.

Not all readers are experienced old farts like you and me and it would do them a mis-service to let them go away with anything but the true and honest facts.
The simple fact is that there is no such critter as a 6PPC Lapua. I'm sure there are some who got that impression from your post. I'd hate to think of them searching the gun stores for brass that doesn't exist.
And I have seen shooters on the line with the old 6x47 recently. They didn't win. Again I would not want new shooters to think that they can be competitive with a 6x47 and spend their few $$$ on a used rifle thinking so. Sure, you can shoot anything you want but if you want to be competitive you had better have a combination capable of aggregates in the high ones or low twos. That aint going to happen with a 6x47.
I know you well enough to see your jabs coming and can side step the pokes. So don't worry about hurting me. I can take it as well as dish it out.:kiss:

I have not considered the 6X47 a competitive BR gun since 1984 when PPC's started out numbering them in competition. Everybody that shot Sporter in the 70's & mid 80's had one. I think the 6X47 was an excellent BR cartridge in it's time. It's time is long gone. Like I said earlier I see one for sale every year. Most guys buy them open up the bolt face add an extractor put a 6mm barrel on and make a PPC out of them.
