6x47 lapua and SM

I know this may be a stupid question, but is the 6x47 Lapua and 6x47 Swiss Match the same cartridge?
I am searching here for 6x47 Lapua load data and keep seeing both of these mentioned. Don't want to use the wrong info.

Thanks
Tony

Close but not exactly the same. The 6x47SM came out first but no one was importing it into the US so it never caught on. It was actually the preferred cartridge. When the 6.5x47L came out it was immediately necked down to 6mm and that effectively killed any chance the SM may have had. You'll find so much good data for the 6x47L that it hardly seems worthwhile to even look at the SM data.

I'm in the part called Linden AZ.:) The wife and I retired after 30 years in the wet and/or frozen North and came here to dry out. Only a Sourdough would recognize a Cheechako. Are you from AK or the Pacific NW?

Ray

Actually, neither. My older brother has lived in Juneau for the past 15 or 20 years. Wife and I went there about 3 years ago for some salmon and halibut fishing. He called me cheechako the whole time I was there. Beautiful place, but I need more sunshine than what they get.
I live in the Texas hill country, between Austin and San Antonio. If you ever make it over this way, let me know and I will introduce you to some of the best BBQ you ever laid a tooth on.

Take care
Tony

Tony,
You live in my old stomping grounds...San Marcos? I enjoyed that area for almost 20 years. Now I am out of the heat and away from the bugs up in S.Colorado.
I shoot a 6x47SwissMatch and use basically the identical data that folks post for the Lapua version. It is a hammer. Second time out I shot a 200-16X at 600 in our prone match last weekend in Raton.

Where do you get your brass? I know a couple of guys who have been wanting some but can't find it anywhere. I have a couple for my collection but they are fired cases that a friend found on the ground at a rifle range.

Ray,
No collector brass....I use the same as the Lapua flavor. I just neck down and bump the shoulder back on the 6.5x47L using a shortened Lapua die. Tried to find some of the RUAG brass but haven't had any luck yet.

Close. I live just to the west of San Marcos in Blanco.

Thanks for all the help. Can't wait to start loading fot this new round.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Swiss match is so close to the 6x47L that it can be loaded with those same dies and fireformed into a 6X47L with a large primer packet. Comments please???? Larry in western ky.

Wrong. Well, partially at least.

The SM has significantly shorter headspace. You'd have to create a false shoulder first.

LAPUA can be made into SM by pushing the shoulder back, such as lige probably does.

Larry,

You are a fast provider of brass, and a gentleman on the phone.

I received the once fired 6x47sm brass today, and I must say that it looke pretty nice!

I'm going to try fireforming by both creating the false shoulder, like forming a Dasher) and by just resizing a portion of the neck, and jamming the bullet in the lands.

I'll post my results in a couple weeks, and let you know how they form up into a 6x47L
