6x22-250 Any QuickLoad Help???

jpretle

Silver $$ Contributor
Case is 22-250, necked up to 6mm. No other changes. 6mm I'ntl would be similar case capacity.
Looking for some Quik-load info, if someone could punch in the info, for me.
Will be using 107 class bullets in a 29" bbl.
I am thinking max velocities around the 2950-3000fps mark.
How close am I??? and what powders give those numbers??? and what percentage of fill does it take???

Re: 6x22-250 velocities

.25 X 250 is called the savage 250-3000 then was later called the 250 Savage. I would think a 6 X 250 would have similar results with similar weight bullets.

We got one, Charlie! ;) I couldn't wait until April, this thread would be long forgotten by then.

I appreciate the responses guys, thank you. However, I wasn't looking for loading info, but for the capacity/potential of the case in terms of velocity and pressure, and what it takes to get there===percentage of fill, and all.

Well, "itchyTF" already pointed you to Hodgdon's online data which includes 6mm-250. For your convenience, max velocity (24" barrel) from Sierra HPBT 107-gr bullet is from H414 @2886 fps:

Powder C.O.L. Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure
H414 2.600" 35.2 2,720 43,800 CUP 37.5 2,886 51,000 CUP
H4350 2.600" 35.2 2,720 45,000 CUP 37.5 2,844 50,300 CUP
H380 2.600" 33.5 2,621 45,000 CUP 35.7 2,815 51,800 CUP
...
H4831 2.600" 37.6 2,606 40,600 CUP 40.0C 2,738 45,500 CUP
etc.

You will have to get load densities from someone with QuickLoad. (H4831 is the only compressed load in these data.)

Re: 6x22-250 velocities

Thank you brians356. Maybe I should have pointed out, I did check load manual information. My initial posting was specific to Quik Load.

Is 6mmx22-250 the same as the 240NMC?

Not very close, really. 240 NMC is based on 243 Win (itself derived from 308 Win) w/ steeper shoulder, whereas 6mmx22-250 is derived from 250 Savage with quite a bit more body taper.

Re: 6x22-250 velocities

There was a really good article in Precision Shooting Magazine a few years ago where a fellow was shooting the 6/250 over the course. He had really good accuracy with speed.

Re: 6x22-250 velocities

I probably read that article, but admittedly, have forgotten about it. Will go back and try finding it.
I am running the 107's at about 2950, w/ good accuracy, in a 29" bbl. Was just wondering if another powder would do any better for me for velocity, or have I about maxed out the potential of the case size.
I have tried H-4831sc, slightly compressed, but the velocity is not there and I don't believe additional compression will gain me anything.

I believe that the info posted on cartridgecollector.net regarding the 240 NMC is incorrect. The 6CM is a 243 win based wildcat with a 30 degree shoulder (just like the 6SLR).

The 240NMC is a 22-250 win with a 6mm bullet stuffed into it. Same shoulder angle and trim to length as the 22-250 win. I have seen the 6x22-250 mentioned before and was wondering if it is nothing more than a 22-250 sized up to 6mm, in which case it would be identical to the 6NMC.

Thanks,

Trevor

Wrong! The body is "improved" dramatically as well, to 308 Win (or 243 Win) taper. That makes it closer to a 243 Win than a 22-250.

From a thread on this forum in 2005 "FroggyOne2" wrote:

"The 240NMC is the same over all length of the 22/250, but when fired formed. it changes to a 28 degree shoulder with a .308 body taper."

So, essentially, 240 NMC is a 22-250 Improved of sorts, necked up to 6mm. But in form, it more akin to a slightly shortened 308 Win necked down to 6mm (or just a shortened 243 Win) with an steeper shoulder.

The description of 240 NMC at CartridgeCollector.net is incorrect, you're right about that. It should say "shortened 243 Win case" and "28° shoulder" rather than "30°".
