6ppc coated loads and barrel Life?

What are the loads some of you guys are using? Where should I start? Im thinking of going with Barts bullets then have them coated. Also, what is the barrel life for coated 6ppc barrels?

That would be a sin. Use Bart's NAKED 68 grain Ultra's. They go through the same hole, assuming you do your part.

Re: 6ppc coated loads???

Haha. Do you think it would change the accuracy of bullet? I love the idea of longer barrel life.

Re: 6ppc coated loads???

I've never seen longer barrel life.

Just longer intervals between cleanings without loss of accuracy.

Re: 6ppc coated loads???

Do you mean it because it a 6ppc or in general that the coated bullets do not help with barrel life?

Re: 6ppc coated loads???

In general.

I've shot moly plated bullets since Neco first started promoting the process, whenever that was.

Original claims out there were longer barrel life, more accuracy, higher BC's, less cleaning, more velocty, better chance of picking up wimmin, etc......

The only thing I've seen is the longer intervals between cleanings, with a bunch of different calibers as test beds.

The load I have used in LV Score BR for several seasons is VV n-133 with a custom 67 grain bullet coated with Danzac (ws-2), fed.205. It takes a long drop tube to get my charge in. I use a lot of neck tension with 133.
WS-2 allows me to shoot the entire agg without cleaning. No one has proved any increase in barrel life using coated bullets.
Barrel life is a subjective thing. The PPC is the accuracy benchmark chambering for pt. blank BR , and therefore may be held to a higher standard. Tony Boyer may claim it is toast by 500 rds. off. I would venture to say the avg. bbl life in serious competition is 1500/2000 rds max, this includes a chamber setback to account for throat erosion and frequent re-crowning.
VV-133 works well, but it has a sharp learning curve, and you must constantly adjust powder charge to atmospheric conditions. For those not willing to keep up with this quirky powder, I would suggest light to medium loads using H-322 and Barts FB is usually a good choice. If 133 intrigues you, check out Jack Neary's seminar on you-tube.

I discussed this with a Benchrest shooter that has long experience with the NECO method of coating with moly (including wax). Unlike many who use, or have used moly, he cleans between each group (match) using the full patch, brush (bronze), patch routine(Obviously not too many strokes are required.). He told me that he felt that he had gotten longer barrel life, and that the barrel that he was cleaning as we spoke had about 2,500 rounds on it, and was still shooting well. To reinforce that point, later that day, he shot a really good group at 200 (a .179), under tough conditions. The mirage was so bad that shooters were having to use the aiming square, and could not reliably see bullet holes. My impression is that the typical 6PPC barrel does not make it past 1,500 rounds. Watching shooters clean at matches, I am not at all sure that this is due to the wear caused by shooting. Perhaps cleaning technique is a contributing factor.(ineffective guides, bowed rods, going well past the muzzle with a jag or brush)
The reason that I am not currently using coated bullets is that a couple of my barrels require loads that are already challenging to get in the case, and I know that I would need more powder to hit the same node if I changed coated bullets.
