Barrel friendly 6mm creedmoor powder

Has anyone tried out the new Bartlein Barrel (new steel)??? Does it live up to the claim of significantly improved barrel life?

Is there anything to some powders being "easier" on barrels? I recently built a 6mm creedmoor to start shooting in PRS matches and would like to extend the barrel life as much as possible. I have read many on this forum state that RL17 is giving shorter barrel life. What powder, if any, will increase the barrel life? The first and only load I have shot so far is H4350 and the coated 115 RBT DTAC. Shoots fine but wondering if another powder would increase the barrel life.
H4831sc is an excellent powder for the 243 w/115s. Gotta believe it'll be a great option for the 6CM as well.

Run what works but step down to a lower node. I shoot with a lot of guys that seem to think if it's not blistering fast then it won't shoot,... BS to that. I have found many great loads for nearly all my rifles that shoot really well at a lower node without shortening barrel life. No need to cook the barrel to get the job done.

The 6 CM is for going faster than the 6 BR series cases. If you want to go 2800 stick with them. I bought my barrel with a 1-7 twist to shoot the 115s. The 115 Berger VLD over 39.2 of H4350 is doing 3015 out of a Shilen 28". Last time out I shot three three shot groups of .178, .279 and .556 @ 100. No pressure signs with this load. A couple tenths more and the groups opened up.

H4350 is going to be a bit slow, which will help on stretching life. But really I have the same caliber and it's gonna burn barrels faster than about anything we've owned

Heat is your biggest enemy.....a lot of rounds in a short period of time will work on any barrel. High pressures and high internal heat. Extruded powders tend to burn cooler than ball powders and nitroglycerin content accentuates. You have picked a sport that is by nature rough on equipment. Good luck and stay safe.

Bbl life for a 6 Creedmore will be the same as a 6 XC. Between 2000-2300 rds depending on ur use. H4350 and VV150 are ur do to powders. The only way to get a few more rounds (500 or so) out of ur bbl is to set it back at 1000-1100 rds. If u can do that yourself at min cost, great. If u have to pay Someone for the work, it may not be worth the expense.

I also shoot 6 Creed. I am on my 4th barrel with about a total rounds shot at 4K.

My first barrel (factory) I got only 1100 rounds. When I installed my second barrel I was using H4350 and when testing I found 2, FPS that gave me my best accuracy. I used to shoot at 3200 FPS then I figured I would used that lower node (2980 FPS). This still gave me great groups at 600 and 1000 yds but I was able to get about 1400 rounds before I shot out the throat of the barrel and was not able to seat my bullets out far enough.

I'm on my 4th barrel now and have a round count of 982 and still going strong.

If you do a ladder test on your loads you will find the nodes that will give you good accuracy then go with the lowest FPS to save the barrel life a little bit.

Just my $.02 worth

You should try some bullets that don’t mind a jump. You should be able to get more than 1400 rounds at that speed. I used to shoot my .243 at 2990fps with 115 DTACs and had over 1880 rounds and still shot 1/2 moa.

You should also try some Tubb TMS bullets. Every few hundred rounds or so you shoot a couple down the bore and it keeps the throat smoother. I did it with that .243 and it worked great but if your bullets need to be near the lands then that’s going to be the main issue.

Thanks on the Tubb suggestion, I shoot .030 off the lands (108gr).

Hornady ELD Match.

Not brag'n but they give me 5" at 1000 yds

Don’t doubt it as I shoot those too in a couple calibers. They don’t mind a jump in my experience I usually start loading them at .020” off and then keep it there through the life of the barrels so they end up jumping quite a bit more. In my 6ARC they are jumping about .070” if I remember correctly and shoot great.
