6ppc advice

If you plan on ever competing with this gun in the future than ther is a few other things to consider, like weight of rifle trigger and stock configuration. But if your just going to use it to go to the range and shoot a few rounds on the weekends then you will be ok with just a switch barrel. I have a Nesika with a 308 boltface that shoots a PPC it was made that way. The boltface on your Nesika is probably a sliding extracted typ( not a sako typ extractor) it can still work for extracting PPC cases but if you go that rout make sure you use a gunsmith that knowe what he is doing

Here's a pic of my 6ppc I put together, I bought the 40X action an barrel on here {$650} then got a trigger from Jewel {$165}and a stock and trigger guard {$400} locally. Had my smith fit it to the stock . T36 Weaver with Kelby rings and bases{$420}. Still needs a little tweaking on the load, but its come a long way from just a few pieces. Now it just needs to warm up out there so I can spend a day at the range. Can't wait to get this thing going. Going to shoot 68gr Berger flat base bullets in the 14 twist . I had it in a 40X stock but changed it over the winter to the benchrest stock in the picture. If you want to shoot tiny groups at short range this is the caliber to do it with .

garrettsdad if the bolt on your action will accept the PPC then do a switch barrel and your good to go. If not, as many have already said, buy one of the many quality used BR guns that are available. It will take forever, 6 months to a year, to put all the pieces together and build a new one. The used market is fabulous for this type of gun and a new barrel is the most you will need and most of the times not even that. For $2,000 you can pick up a rifle that will shoot better than 1/4” and you can have it right away for about 1/2 the price that a new build will be. The 6PPC is the easiest caliber to load accurately that I’ve ever run into. The 6BR is close. I just bought a used 6PPC for under $2,000 that I’m sure cost over $4,000 to build and had less than 350 rds. down the barrel. It shoots in the 1s regularly and now I’m getting another barrel cut in 6BR that I will use for 600 yard matches. Used BR guns are a bargain. Do it and never look back.

I think Dan Hall has hit the nail right on the ahead with his recommendation of a used benchgun. I have at least 6 guns in 6ppc and all have been used turn key packages and all are still more accurate than I am. Some came with scopes and others with dies and reloading components. One of my favorites is a Wichita that cost me $800 which just shows that there are some real bargains to be had.

I chose a used Stolle Panda to get back in the game. It had a PPC bolt face, so I had the bolt face opened to accept the larger BRxx base cartridges, and I can switch barrel between 6PPC or 6BR. Bolt face is your option. All this after I determined my budget, and how I was going to use the gun. I have access to Benchrest comps and also F-Open up to 600 yds locally. So really I narrowed down my choice to a quality single shot, and for a used gun, it really can put some reasonable groups on paper. There are a few choices with the manufacturers, so I hope you find what suits you.

I have a factory stock (except has been pillar and glass bedded) Benchrest Model 6PPC single-shot Sako with dies and brass that I will be posting in the classifieds next week when I return from a hunting trip (about 1k). PM me if interested or watch the classifieds.
