6mmXC continues to impress as a hunting cartridge

My 6mmXC rifle just dropped its third deer in just under a year. I got my deer last December, helped my buddy with his boy this past October and my sister in law just used it to harvest her first buck last weekend. So far that rifle has harvested three animals all at over 500 yards. I am convinced the 6mmXC may just be the best all-around deer cartridge I have ever used. This latest deer just cemented this opinion for me. My sister in law shot her buck at 585 yards at a hard uphill angle deep in a canyon. The sound of the impact was like a large man smacking the water in a belly flop contest. The deer was quartered away from us and the 105gr Berger Hybrid entered the rear leg just above the knee then entered the body cavity and traveled up and through the entire deer to come to rest just under the hide on the offside shoulder. To say that deer fell like a cow patty on the prairie would be an affront to cow patties everywhere. Even at over 500 yards that bullet traveled through at least 30" of deer. Very impressive. The second deer it killed was a text book through the shoulder shot and in that case the Berger 105 hybrid punched a nice round hole with a half inch exit wound. I think that deer took two steps before he piled up. The deer I killed last December was at 756 yards and again was a shoulder shot. In that case I was using the 110gr Sierra Match King. To say that bullet is devastating would be an understatement. It worked like a champ but maybe a bit too frangible for my liking and after making some furry hamburger out of some Arizona jack rabbits I decided to switch to the 105 Bergers for my big game needs. I love small efficient cartridges and the XC definitely fits the bill.

Exactly the same experience for me. I shoot deer smaller (roe) and bigger (reds) than yours, but very impressed with the lethality of the 6 XC.
I've used Nosler 90 gr Accubond for roe and Hornady 105gr Amax (legal requirement min 100gr bullet weight) and it's working as good as anything.

Congratulations on your success, thanks for sharing!

That’s impressive that the same rifle took all three deer at over 500 yards. Beautiful deer, almost ghost like. What is your speed on the 105 burgers?

39.0gr of R-16 is giving me 3048fps with the 105s. They don't call them the Grey Ghost for nothing. These little deer are incredibly addictive to hunt. One day you can think you have them figured out and this is a piece of cake and the next day they leave you scratching your head wondering what the hell just happened.
