6mmXC 110 Match King Field Results

The following is a field report of my December Coues Deer rifle hunt. I'll spare the hunt story and just report on the results.

Rifle Specs:
Rem 700 trued Action
Proof 26" 7.5 tw
HS Precision stock
Leupold 8.5-25x50 LRP TMOA
Norma brass
CCI #200 primers
40.5gr R16
Sierra 110 MK @ 3070fps

Target Distance = 756 Yards
Impact Velocity = 2005fps give or take
Energy = 980 ft lbs.

The bullet entered the front right shoulder with a nice 6mm hole and exited the opposite shoulder with a golf ball sized exit hole. The internal chest cavity was complete mush. Small jacket and bullet fragments were found inside the chest cavity. This is the only animal killed with this bullet but results are very similar to those seen with Berger VLDs. I am very happy with the results and the buck. I will not hesitate to keep using them.

Thanks for this, the 110 was not a bullet I imagined working great on game. Now that you have some history with it, do you feel at closer distances, say 400 and in, it would perform the same?
Nice shot too!

Thanks! Yeah, I don't think there is going to be any issues with it at closer ranges. Now that my deer hunt is over I am hoping to whack a couple coyotes with it and see how it does on those.

Keep us posted, I stayed away from this bullet on a build that was going to be used to hunt with also, and things never end well when I second guess my choices, lol

I really wish I was able to get the kill shot on video. It was incredible, I've seen deer shot with big magnums that didn't hit as hard. Even at almost 800 yards away it sounded like you walked up to that deer and hit him with a bat. THUMP!

In all honesty, I was a bit nervous with this bullet as well but I have had excellent results with the 142s in 6.5s and it looks like the 110 will be more of the same.

That is a beautiful Coues deer. Quite the trophy, and one hell of a shot! Very nicely done! What does your rifle weigh as pictured?:) Eagerly waiting on your coyote report! Just received a Proof CF 6mm 7.5 twist barrel for myself for a build coming up.:p

Very nice :) Glad to hear the 110 SMK performed that good as a hunting bullet. Will be awaiting the coyote report as well.

Thanks Paul, The rifle as pictured weights about 11.5lbs. but without Bi-Pod and loaded mag it comes out at 9.75lbs. It actually carried really well, it was on my shoulder for about 3 miles by the time that day was over.

Bojo I am not exactly positive on reamer specs but it is a PTG reamer purchased from Bullets.com a couple years ago. It has chambered about 6 rifles now and every one of them has shot extremely well.

That's a monster Coues, congratulations.

What caliber is it? I see all the specs except that. 6XC? 243Win? 6Creedmoor?

Great shot. I also was concerned about this bullet and how it would perform on game. Have a 7 twist Benchmark on order right now for a 6SST build. May have to reconsider the 110 Sierra. Wonder if it would still expand down to 1800 fps? Not that it matters as I won't shoot game out that far anyway.

I think this bullet will work very similar to the VLDs. In my experience, they work best when bone is impacted.

FWIW I had two coyotes get away with the 110 at 450 ish yards.

I didn’t try them closer or farther away.

Both had blood trails but no coyotes at the end. Not positive on exactly where they were hit but front end someplace.

I will try them again however, I still think it’s be an okay coyote bullet.
