6mm that would be good for competing in f open.

6SLR is one I've often thought about for both PRS and f class.
Yup,.. THAT, "Sweet Heart" and the 6 XC ARE,.. proven "Winners", Especially at,.. 800- to 1,000 yards,..
IF,.. the winds NOT Blowing,.. too Hard !
Love my, 6 XC with, the 1-7.5 Twist ! ( If, wanting to shoot, the 115's go, 1-7 TW. )
Mine Shoot's Everything from, 80 grain to 110 grainers into, "BugHoles",.. of course, with some Bugs, being, slightly bigger than,.. other Bugs.
Me personally, I'd AVOID the Gay Tiger, as not having quite, the "Horse Power" of, these Two.
Unless, you like,.. the "Rainbow", Trajectory.

I think I’ve had everything but a 6XC. Just pick one. I have a new GT barrel on right now, and with Alpha OCD brass, it was pretty easy to match my 6x47 Lapua…. So there’s 2 that are very similar.

I think the creed is creeping into “too much” territory for a 6mm bore. The BR and BRA are definitely the most precise, but slower of course. I really like the GT/47 territory myself. It’s up to you though, ultimately.

What is the capacity difference between a dasher and a GT?

I really couldn’t tell you. I used Varget in the Dasher and H4350 in the GT. I’ve never taken the time to fill a case up with water either.

I hate to be a bandwagon guy, but when the BRA became a thing, I kinda forgot all about the Dasher.
Yea, I get it.
Maybe I’m just an old curmudgeon, but I haven’t had my arse kicked with enough frequency by a BRA to switch. My dashers still win more than their share of contests, be it F-Class or BR.

I'm assuming my twist rate will be based on which projectile weight I choose. I want something that could on it's own easily be competitive in 600yd matches, maybe a 1000yd once or twice a year. I want to be the only weak link in the setup. Are the 6mm in F-open the Heavy Palma 30 inch length? 1-8 twist get you in a good wheelhouse for bullet selection?

A 6mm Dasher combined with the 105 Hybrid (1:8 twist will do just fine) is potent 600-yard medicine and will hold its own at 1K if the wind isn't blowing. A 30" straight or heavy varmint profile will be plenty, with the 30" straight contour being a relatively safe bet to come in under the 10 Kg/ 22 lb. rifle limit for F-Open. A 21 lb. Dasher is a joy to shoot, allowing the shooter to focus on conditions, sight picture and gun handling without worrying about recoil and torque.

You give up quite a bit to the 7mms and .30s at 1K, especially if the conditions are something other than benign. On a calm day, though, the Dasher will perform well at 1K.

If you're getting started, I would recommend the Dasher without reservation. It won't drive you to bad habits (anticipating recoil and torque), so you can spend your time getting solid with the fundamentals and learning to read the conditions. Also, it's not a choice you will outgrow as your skills develop, especially for midrange.

A good friend of mine often shoots his 7mms (SAUM, Shehane and straight .284) at 600 and fumes now and again that his scores aren't to his liking and too inconsistent. Whenever he decides to shoot his 6mm, he shoots like he's pissed at the X-ring. Same shooter, same range, a sizeable number of data points that point to the 6mm being easier to drive. And this guy is no rookie.

Ok , so some variant of 6mm. Looking like barrels are 10-12 months out. Would a 1- 8 twist, 5R, 32" barrel be good enough to cover most stuff? BR, BRX, DASHER???

If you order direct, yes that's the lead time for the big names.

If you shop resourcefully for a popular contour (straight, heavy varmint) then no. There are sellers who have a regular inventory of barrels and although the inventory is lower now, they have some. The barrel you mention support all of the 6mm cartridge options listed here.
