6mm Super LR has it won anything ?

Just planning for new build for next season like everybody else

Advised by my gunsmith to take a hard look at the 6mm Super LR

I read all the advantages on 6mmAR.com

Has it won anything to date ?

Local bench or tactical comps ?

What is your opinion so far ?

I am looking for a tactical paper shooter for 600 yards from a MAK tube

Chasis that performs well in the wind

I am really tempted to go for "another " 6br or dasher again

Convince me ....

Thanks

I cannot speak about anyone else, but I sure have more than my share of 600 and 1000 yards wins with it - but I don't count since I am the developer of it.

Robert

I have read your pages over and over again

I see all the advantages and no down side

I am down to 2 choices ,

SLR or the dasher

I know what you are going to say I just want to hear from the boys

Well done for your work and keep it up

I've only had mine (6slr) about a month and a half and it just plain shoots. I've found several loads that it likes and i've only shot about 125 round through it so far. Just shot a group doing some seating dept monkeying around that was 0.114" at 100yds, which isn't very far. But at 300yds on out it's a firehouse.

I say do the 6slr there is no fuss with making the brass, or fireforming, so no wasted time, money and barrel life. You can get a bit more powder in the case and push those little 6mm pills a bit faster.

I'll definitely be behind mine come match season. I think it'll have an edge over those 308's that everyone likes to shoot for some odd reason. ;)

I have both an SLR and a 6mm BRX.

The BRX would be my choice for 600 yd shooting hands down. THe SLR is reserved for 1000 yd shooting.

The BRX is scary accurate, no recoil, easy to reload, easy on bbls, and you don't need any more cartridge for 600 yd shooting.

The SLR is designed for heavier bullets, and I believe longer ranges. It shoots right along side a 6.5x284 in the wind (I have one of those too).

The SLR is in its element at the longer ranges. The 115 DTAC is my favorite bullet for it along with H4831sc. Have only shot it for a season and when the wind is blowing, it draws the duty.

Bob

I have been working with this cartridge nearly since it's infancy. Everything that Bob B. says is spot on. At 600 yds. I shoot the 105 gr. bullets and my teammate just chuckles to himself every time I fire. He says, "That thing is amazing, while you rifle is in recoil, there is already a puff of dust rising from the berm”. I have two different bbls. with different twists. The 7.75" twist gets fed 115's and H-1000. The 8" twist get the 105's with N-160. On any given day either of these combos will take home the gold. Inexpensive W-W brass and Wolf primers are the constants in my ammo. So, whats not to like?
Again Robert, thank for a simple, no muss, no fuss cartridge.
Lloyd

+ 1 on what Bob And Lloyd said. Since I have a 6BR i use that for 600 yards as it is just too easy, spooky accuracy, long barrel life and lots of fun to shoot and load for.
Ill be testing the SLR with the new 105 Hybrid hopefully very soon. So in a nut shell to echo Bob the SLR is my Over 600 Yards 6mm gun. ( Like Bob I shoot a 6.5X284 as well)

Yes I have won a couple of 1000 yard matches with it. NRA prone with a sling not Benchrest. I dont do Benchrest.

Thank you guys for sharing your experience

I am definitely going for it

And Robert thank you for email this afternoon despite you busy schedule

The only thing to decide is what bullet, twist and length

I am down to 2 for mainly 600 yard and occasional 1000 yard

Either the 105 hybrid Berger 8 twist or 115 Berger vld 7.5 twist

(dtac are Not easily available in Europe)

I am tempted to go for 7.5 twist 115 VLD - 28 inch 5R barrel

What do you guys think ?

Robert out of the three reamer design Which one shall I order if I go for the 115 VLD for throating ?

Again thanks guys

Thanks to all and especially to Robert

Have ordered reamer from PTG for the 115 long throat print

Will shoot the berger 115 VLD

Will start with Winchester case, 4831sc, fed 205 primer

Will order redding die set from Robert as well

Have ordered 1 in 7.5 twist barrel and plan to cut to 28 inches to start of with

If I get Consistant 3000 fps without pressure sign I will be over the moon

Let's see how tight will this rig shoot at 600 as compared to a Dasher

What's the neck tension with Bergers and Winchester case ?

In another thread related I was asking if there Is any merit to chasing the higher node (3150 area) with the SLR that I have read about with the smaller 107's to buck wind or are the 115's a no-brainer for windy days and longer ranges?
Thanks.

The new 105g berger hybrid have a better bc then the dtac from the way it sounds, not by much, but if you can push the 105 a little faster then the 115 it will really add up.

Have not shot a match with mine yet but took it to AIM in Blakely Ga Saturday and shot it at 1000 yards. I shot 12 shots. One was a 9 the other 11 were 10's with 7 X's. I will be shooting it in a match on the 5th.

Finally got mine to a f-class 600yd. match a few weeks ago. 107's & 4350 in the upper node around 3130'. Held great vertical, x-ring to mid 10 for all 4 relays. A let-off induced 193, couple of 197's & a 200. While I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express..I did win 6 bucks!! During the last string I went into rapid fire mode due to the conditions and the last 7 rounds got a bit sticky so I'll have to drop the load down a bit. Otherwise VERY happy with it! Eric in DL

Cakes - what brass were you using? I am interested in building a 6slr but IMO the advantage is to run 6mm HBC bullets as fast as possible (and still retain a reasonable barrel life). I am wondering if Lapua brass is the way to go for this. I know Robert recommends winchester brass because of the neck thickness issues but I am wondering if it is worth pursuing Lapua brass as it will most likely tolerate higher pressures.

I am using Winchester brass with great results. It forms up great in the dies and after 3 firings I am still only neck sizing. Only had to turn one of the necks. I know Robert Whitley is using Winchester brass and he is the one how designed this cartridge. I wouldn't waste my money on Lapua on this one. I do use it on my 6BRX though.

coyotehunter - I hear ya...(just to be clear I'm not knocking winchester brass) out of curiosity what are you pushing them at?

3080fps with the load Im using now but I have pushed them to 3300 with no problem with R17 powder. I could get alot more how of the powder IM using now but the load Im shooting is light, easy on the barrel and very accurate.

Thanks - it sure does sound tempting..stay in touch, I am keen to see how barrel life works out.
