New build - 6mm SUPER LR

TheBlueEyedBear

'The Nut Behind The Trigger'
I am building a new gun in the 6mm SUPER LR cartridge designed by Robert Whitley. Has anyone else been shooting this cartridge? Would appreciate any feedback you may have. I am going to be starting with the 108gr BIB BT bullets.

SPECS:
Richard Franklin Low-Rider stock lam. Walnut
BAT ss 3L action with RBLPRE spiral fluted
BAT ss trigger guard
BAT ss 20moa rail
Bartlein ss 29" barrel (237/243) 5R .120fb
VAIS ss muzzle brake 1.00"
Jewell BR trigger 1.5oz.
Graco mercury recoil reducer in stock (hate recoil)
Nightforce 12-42x56 NSX with NP-2DD
Redding Competition 'S' die set with .270 bushing
Lapua .243 brass (neck turned)
JGS 6mm SUPER LR reamer
JGS 6mm Super LR go gauge

Sounds like a slick rig.

Search out 6 SuperX for discussions on the cartridge, most of it centers around 115's though.

I'm going the same route for an LR prone gun, but it won't be chambered for some time.

Barry,

I too am starting to work with the 243 Super LR.

My rifle is an NRA HP set up for 1K shooting.

It consists of:

RPA Quadlite action (4 lugs)
Bartline Meduim Palma bbl 31" long, 5R, 7.5T, .120 FB
McGee laminated Prone Stock
CG Jackson Trigger (set at 5 ounces)
Front sight - 30 mm Rite site
Rear - PNW

BBL has 500 rounds down the tube as a 6mm MMX. That is the 6XC with a 20 degree shoulder. All I did was to rechamber the bbl to the 243 Super LR.

One thing that I have found is that the 115 gr DTACs seat comfortably above the neck/shoulder junction. 105 Bergers seat about half way up the neck.

Am going to concentrate initially on H4831sc and see what sort of accuracy and velocity I get. Am most interested in the 115 gr bullets for 1K competitions. If they will shoot accurately in the 3000 fps range then I will give that a try.

The 6mmx could get to 3000 fps in my bbl but only with high pressures. Brass didn't last too long. My hope is that the Super LR will cure that.
