fireforming 6mm super lr

I have been playing with a 6mm super lr for the past few months. When I decided on the chambering, I thought one of the benefits would be not having to fire form.

What my experience has been is that my groups consistently improve almost exactly 1/4 moa after fireforming the brass. Is anyone else seeing this same thing?

Thanks!

Shannon

I typically see situations like that with just about any cartridge shooting virgin brass vs brass that has been shot and reloaded. In my 6.5 x 284, virgin Lapua 6.5 x 284 brass is not as accurate as the brass that I have already shot in the gun and resized, and that runs true with a number of cartridges I have shot (including the 243 Win).

Thanks Robert - as a follow up question:

Am I ok to fireform in one rifle and shoot in another as long as the chambers were cut with the same reamer?

I'm hoping to use a barrel that is almost shot out for short range/fireform and save my better barrel for long range.

Thanks again

Since there is very little difference in the body dimensions of the 6mm Super LR reamers, I don't know that it's imperative to have use the exact same reamer.

Always! Regardless of cartridge. I convert 220 Russian into the 6PPC. There's a big difference between the original form of the parent and the wildcat. Fireforming is the catalyst to the inherent accuracy of the 6PPC.
