After the war on Pandora, the raw material for Winchester brass, Unobtanium, has been in short supply.

oldwildhog said:ShootDots, what twist were you running in you 6mm to shoot the heavier bullets.Mine is a 9 twist and it will not shoot anything over 75 gr.I have not shot any of the vld bullets because of the mag length.
I would take it down and build another, but my wife bought it for me in 1981. Guess I will keep it like it is and shoot the 75gr hp in it.Thank you.

A 9" twist should shoot anything up to 105's. You have other issues.
And if a 12 twist will not stabilize 85-88gr bullets you have issues.Roeder said:I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that you re-check your twist. The behavior you describe, not shooting anything over 75 grains sounds suspiciously like what a 12 twist might do. If it really is a 9 twist then you do have other issues.CatShooter said:oldwildhog said:ShootDots, what twist were you running in you 6mm to shoot the heavier bullets.Mine is a 9 twist and it will not shoot anything over 75 gr.I have not shot any of the vld bullets because of the mag length.

oldwildhog said:I did use the word obsolete in my first post, but by no means did I mean that it was obsolete.I meant that hardly anyone talks about it anymore.
I am glad to see that there is a lot of people that has some too.
I think before I load anymore up I'll just try the 7x57 route and see what happens.I will also try some of the bullets that were listed up above. Can't do anything but get better.Hornady is coming out with 6mm brass around the first of June and might try some. What is your take on hornady brass?
Thanks for the input guys.

Nonsense....
Changeling said:Well, this has been a really interesting thread. ShootDots has fairly evaluated the round and brought to light the difference between the 243 and 6mm Rem in case capacities! I bet this started causing "Squeals" of "NO" from the 243 guys as they rushed to verify the statement, LOL.
I have used the "6mm AI" for a long time and found it to be one of the most accurate/effective 6mm rounds available in the high velocity realm of FAST and ACCURATE cartridge designs.
It's just one of those cartridges that works, pure and simple!! I don't think that anyone will ever know why exactly!
Caveats: Use Winchester brass, NOT Remington. I've always used Winchester!
For my next barrel I will be using Lapua (7 MM Mauser) necked down, set up as "No Turn".
I have a 100% original 722 in 244 12 twist with WAY more than that through it and it still shoots solid 5/8" in a sporter barrelCatShooter said:madderg said:What I was talking about being over-bore still seems important to people that can't afford a new barrel every 800-1200 rounds, and the 6 Rem can not give that...and still be accurate.

^^^^^ I had this one Melonite/Blk. Nitride treated. Figured it'd be a good candidate for that, and it has!shortgrass said:When I passed the ammo case at Walmart today there were 3 boxes of Remington on the shelf. 100g soft points. Not obsolete if it can still be had at Wally World. Now, keep your eyes open for that elusive .220 Swift, .250-3000, .358 Win. .300 Sav. and few others. Those are obsolete, even though there are thousands of rifles chambered in those calibers still in use. Time will tell if ammo and brass will ever be as readily available as it was. My 6mm is a .244 Ackley Improved (thats what it says on my reamer!) with a 1 in 7 twist Hart #4 contour fitted to a VZ 24. A "heavy" bullet rifle....
