6mm rem brass

I have been shooting a 6 mm rem since 1981 Since then, brass has become scarce as hens teeth unless you reform out of 7x57.Now having said that,I do not shoot competition unless it is between friends having fun on the range. Now we do like to make our rounds as accurate as possible.I am down to my last 200 rnds of Win and Rem brass.Just picked up some new Hornady 6mm rem brass the other day. So,my question is,is this good brass?Has anybody else shot any?Your thoughts please.
Man I went the long way around the barn.
Thanks
Jim

Agree. My 6MM Rem brass is decades old. I save it by frequent annealing.

Hornady brass is something I have used in 30-30. Before you laugh, I have multiple 30-30's that I enjoy playing with to 600 yards.

Stop laughing.

Anyway, I find Hornady brass to be quite reliable and long-lasting. Primer pockets seem a bit tight to me and that's a good thing. They also seem to be a bit heavier than comparable Rem or Winchester stuff. I have not done water capacity testing to compare and velocities per given powder load do seem the same.

Another option is to just neck down 257 Roberts brass. Unfortunately it's a bit hard to find but, since it's my favorite caliber, I have a bunch of it acquired over the years. That stuff is shown more often available than 6mm Rem. Thank goodness 7 x 57 is available everywhere. Anneal and turn after sizing if you have to use it.

I heard that the Hornady brass was not to great at lasting from the Internet, and on the reloading forum (This web site) today that guys were talking about the same thing, not lasting long.:(. I have NO personnel experience with their brass.
The 6mm brass I really like is Winchester, Remington has given me problems.
However finding Winchester brass is ridiculous, don't know what their problem is!

It sure is hard to find.I don't know why,but it is just that way. That is the reason I was thinking Hornady. Thanks for the replies.

OP and others,,,I have ~80 Remington and 30 loaded Federal factory rounds(with nosler bullets) will sell it if you cant find any,,,PM me,,,Roger

Grafs had some Hornady last week so I
got a cpl hundred from them. There has been some primed Federal pull down on gb dstaff but ya gotta pay attention to buy it at a fair price. I sure wish Win would run a lot.

in 243 I had to back off my 105 VLD H4350 load when going from Win to Hornady brass or it would trash primer pockets in 2 cycles,,if I was using Hornady in 6mm Rem and couldnt find any other brass I would back it down a little on the powder to save the brass,,which is kinda defeating the purpose of using the 6 Rem but you gotta do what you gotta do,,

Similar to my experience with the Hornady brass. I had to drop the powder way back to get rid of pressure signs from even Winchester brass. I lost about 150 fps in doing so. The neck thickness increases by about 0.006" from the mouth to the junction of the shoulder. This is a nice feature when using a bushing die. You can get negative neck tension at the mouth and 0.004" near the shoulder.

I really think it is poor quality brass but, like others, its all I could find.

I use Privi Partizan (PPU) 7X57, and turn the necks down so bullets slip fit into fired cases. Can't remember neck diameters.

I have 50 unfired Hornady 6mm's and intend to perform an unbiased analysis of them but have been so happy and busy shooting the PPU brass I have not worked with the Hornady's yet. THe Hornady .204's appear to be comparable with my old lot of Winchester 204 brass.

The situation with the .300 RSAUM is worse.

Midway lists 6mm Remington Winchester headstamp brass as “Discontinued”. I don’t know whether this means “Out of Stock” – or – whether they are choosing to no longer provide it – or – whether they know something others don’t i.e. will no longer be manufactured ?

Was recently at Guns Unlimited in Omaha (a Winchester dealer) and asked if they had any word from Winchester when 6mm Remington brass would be available, as they have been out of small caliber Winchester brass for 2 years or more.

Was told they might have some early fall 2016. I hope so – but remain skeptical.

I wrote Winchester back in mid March I think, received the usual we have receive your inquiry and will respond email and have never received any answers concerning 6mm brass, I've given up on them!!

With large companies, phone calls work 50x better - they are swamped in emails..... call theme.

How can they be swamped, they don't answer anyone!
I sent another email yesterday with basically the same request and added this: "If you don't respond to me, I won't respond to purchasing your products any more".

Of course I still won't hear anything back, but I feel MUCH better:D:cool:!

Since my response earlier I e-mailed Midway and have heard nothing. Midway does a lot of cool things but can't respond positively to a timely response to my e-mail.

I also see where Midway lists .257 Roberts Winchester head stamp brass - and - 7X57 Mauser Winchester head stamp brass as discontinued which makes me think they may have gotten word from Winchester these cases will no longer be manufactured ?

If memory serves me correctly years ago Lapua manufactured 7X57 Mauser brass but since has been discontinued. (If someone knows this is not the case please advise)

What would be cool is if Lapua would start manufacturing .257 Roberts brass to make reforming to 6mm Remington - or - 7X57 Mauser possible.

With some Winchester brass now becoming available in .25-06 I am going to check with Redding for all dies needed to make reforming to 6mm Remington.

I have a bunch of rem 6mm necked down to 22-6mm. Brand new never fired. Simply size back up and good to go. If your interested let me know. Think I may have 150 or so. Scott
