6mm ppc

Hello, new member here. Is this round still popular? I bought all the reloading items from an estate and obtained several hundred pieces of Lapua 220 Russian sized and formed to 6ppc and some moly bullets. I am considering going back and purchasing one of the rifles the estate has for sale. Have no experience with this round, but have been reloading common calibers for about 30yrs. The rifles are built on Rem XP 100 actions. Guess I'm just asking for opinions. It would just be something to tinker with. No matches or anything like that. Are the actions outdated. I know some are sleeved, but no experience with anything like that. Or should I just sell the components and leave the rifle. They have 5 bench type rifles, but honestly they look like older builds to me. Thanks

I have a Ruger Mini-30 that has a heavy barrel chambered in 6PPC and a thumbhole stock. The work was done 30 years ago or so. Fun rifle that shoots very well. Back then the AR guys would take a second look

Exactly what @PopCharlie said... the 6mmPPC is still the king of the 100 / 200 yard benchrest game.

Once the wind picks up the 6mmBR-Norma is a little more efficient at 300 yards, but not by much.

Only odd thing about the 6ppc is the bolt face. It would be 10x more popular if it had a .473" case head.

Most popular powders are H-4198 / IMR-4198 / VV-N-130 / Accurate LT-30 for 65 - 75 gr bullets.
VV-N-133 & LT-32 is also very popular for 70 gr +/- bullets.

You have to find out the twist of the barrel before you decide on which projectile weights to test.

Thanks for the info. All the bullets were in the 50 to 60gr range, but didn't see any twist stampings on the barrels. They have to be the best triggers I have ever felt. Have to be in the few oz's. Might be too specialized for me though after the info received and some research. I'll probably just sell the components and use the proceeds for more familiar cartridges.

probably 13 or 14 twist— Would you like to shoot one and see just how accurate accurate is or did you buy this stuff for other reasons. only you can answer that.

I bought all the reloading items from an estate and the ppc components were included. About 400 pieces of brass and bullets. Just briefly looked at the rifles, but I have the opportunity to take any of them and shoot them if I wish. Think I have decided to pass on the rifles for now.

My 6mm-PPC is built on an XP-100 .It was built in the early 80s .. When I saw the kind of rifles the builder built I just had to have one. Never shot in competition but do load meticulously. I have never seen, held, or watched anyone shoot a rifle as accurate as mine. My first five shots with this rifle went into one very slightly ragged hole.
If you don't buy the rifle tell me where the components are.
Thanks

Mine has a gain twist barrel and loves H-322 topped with62.5 gr Watson's which sadly are no longer available.

N-160 is too slow burning for the 6 ppc... even if it's a fast twist shooting heavy bullets, N-160 is too slow burning.
There was a good pit of powder there, just assumed that was what he was using because of the amount there and having 3, 6ppc rifles. Also had a 7stw, 22-250, a6br, and 223 rifles all set up as bench guns. I know nothing about the 6ppc cartridge admittedly.

7mm Shooting Times Westerner and N-160 is a fairly good match with bullets up to 160 gr.
For someone who had a few 6-PPC rifles, I'm not surprised they chose N-160 for the 7-STW.
N-160 is a very accurate powder.

I don't blame you... It's a Benchrest competition cartridge, so it's not as practical as other cartridges.
You might want to rethink that statement. A 65gr Hornady V-Max will certainly take care of any hog out to 150 yards. How often have you shot or even had the opportunity to take a shot at a hog farther out than that~? Certainly accuracy isn't a problem so Coyotes can be hit where it counts~!

I would suggest buy at least one of those rifles and playing with it and your supply of brass/bullets and see how you like it. I think you will. If not then you could sell all of it as a package and very well make some profit.
