6mm PPC Norma brass

A friend of mine just bought a 6mmPPC and doesn't have any knowledge about making Lapua 220 Russian brass into 6mm PPC brass. Has anybody had good luck with shooting the Norma 6mm PPC brass. He has a tight neck .262 and does know how to turn the necks. But doesn't want to get into the 5 step process of make the Lapua 220 Russian brass. Does it shoot as well?? Is the any place he can buy the Lapua 6mm PPC all made if the Norma brass isn't good enough??? Thanks Russ

Norma brass measures out with a bullet in it at .265 so using Norma brass one would have to neck turn it down to fit into the .262 neck.

I've shot some of it. I do just a skim turn and it comes out at about 0.2635. He won't have to do much to get it down to 8.5 or so thick for a 262 neck.

Shoot it with confidence. Just do not expect it to take quite the abuse that Lapua 220 Russian will.

5 steps? I just expand the neck, hit it with the bump die so it fits in the chamber, neck turn and chamfer and de-bur and shoot. With that tight neck you are going to have to turn them anyhow so why not use the best? LAPUA?

+1. And for what it's worth, though it's good brass, my experiences show that Norma has slightly less case capacity than does Lapua which means slightly higher pressures.

You missed trim to the shortest neck in the lot so that you get a consistent turn on he length of the neck since the turner indexes on the lip of the case.

1. Expand
2. Run through FL die to bump shoulder
3. Length trim
4. Rough cut
5. Fine cut
6. Fire form

For an extra $1 per case Ron does all the work for you: http://www.benchrest.com/hoehn/html/ammo___brass.html

How much is your time worth?

Watch Lou Murdica's Shot Show report on the 6PPC Norma Brass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAFleA_mQv8 He thinks it's excellent. :)

I agree with him that it is good brass. Darned good brass. :) I've shot a lot of terrific groups with it in both factory and custom barrels. JMO, but save your time and money.... buy the Norma. If you are a polished and experienced brass prepper that can consistently shoot .200 and below groups, then maybe give the Lapua brass a try. WD

The Lapua 220 Russian brass [Blue Box] has of late been inconsistent and a real bear to turn on occasion. It has lost its luster with some shooters. I hope Lapua starts taking a good hard look at its Metallurgy QC process or that of its supplier. :(
