I am not up to speed on this case and would appreciate an education from our valued members.
Parent case?
Fireforming required?
Case capacity?
Boltface required?
FL Die, custom or not?
Picture comparison?
Any info is certainly appreciated, Tim

Tim
It's based off the Grendel case
Yes fireforming is required
Capacity is close but just a little less than a BR
PPC bolt face
Custom die
Bart or myself will get a picture posted sometime today

All this Grinch development is looking very interesting to me, and I have some questions if i may.

I am looking to structure a cross field target gun for 100 to 600 yard shooting, and the occasional 1000.
My rifle is currently based on a Panda action, and I am enjoying that.

My questions pertaining to the Grinch are:
- PPC premium accuracy is said to be around 700 rounds from new in a short range bench gun (1-14 to 1-13.25 twists), how is this looking for the grinch? < I would ideally like longevity in barrel and brass >
- I saw the great results posted in a heavy varmint 13.5 lb. gun, how does the grinch perform in a 10.5 lb rig?
- Can you (also) run a 12 twist in a 10.5 lb. gun and be competitive
- what are the recommended free-bore for the different configurations?
- would a 268 - 270 neck work as well or are you controlling neck tension a bit with a thinner neck?
- in a fast twist say 1 in 8, how is barrel life/accuracy compared to the BR, and the new BR/40 some others are working on?

If you have any other relevant questions you may feel I need to ask, please feel free to include those also.

Love your work and thanks for your consideration,

Geoff

Geoff,

At this point I can't say with certainty how long a barrel will last. However so far it looks like barrels will last at least as long as a 6PPC. Most of the shooting at short range has been done with 12 twist barrels and 80 gr bullets. Running them between 3100 to 3280. Brass has held up as good as my PPC. At 600 we have used 8 twist barrels and bullets in the 103 to 105gr.

The Grinch is the only cartridge that I've seen that can give the PPC a run for its money. Greg King with a 10 1/2 gun, won the St Louis Regionals (100/200 yards) last year shooting the Grinch against a field of 40 some shooters.

Freebore I'd recommend 130 to 135

We started with a .264 neck but have plans to try a 268.
I'd say barrel life compared to a 6 BR should be about the same. The Grinch is like shooting a zippy BR as far as velocity goes.

Bart

Bart, thank you for your reply and info!

I am very interested in exploring this cartridge, with more focus on the one cartridge over short to midrange yardages and technically be in the hunt or even improve my chances.

Is the freebore same for both the 1 in 12 and 1 in 8 twist you have been using?

I understand there is more to come, and look forward to the observations, (and targets)

Thanks, Geoff

Is Billy doing the chambering for your Grinch and do you/he have the 268 neck chamber at this time or is it on order?

Gee - - 6mm Grinch kind of seems like just another copy of our 6mmAR Turbo 40

How have you been James?

Billy has a .268 Grinch reamer. Dean Stroud has been chambering my Grinch barrels.

Bart
Thanks Bart. Doing great, finally retired a few years ago and easing back into shooting. Grinch looks interesting. Getting into long range stuff with a few friends, 500-600 yards mostly and sometime stretching things on out past 600

RCw3,

I don't think Dean Stroud ever heard of a 6mmAR Turbo or a 6MM AR when he came up his idea for the Grinch. Send me a copy of your reamer prints. I'd like to see how close they are. Whoever is naming your wildcats needs fired. Grinch is much more catchy!

Bart

40 deg 6mm Grendel.. Only about ten years behind the curve here with RW being the first and then Kreabum being the second with the 6mm Fat Rat. Now the Grinch LOL.
