Can't help but think your inputs to QL with RL16 are fubar, to say the least. I believe I've tried H4350 in every 6Dasher barrel that I've ever had, dating back to 2004 and from some 12 barrels. And while I've almost always had accuracy with respectable velocities from H4350 in the 6Dasher's with 105/107 class bullets, RL16 on its very first outing produced more accuracy then I ever once had with H4350. Which repeated in a 2nd rifle as well, and is riling all other powders I've ever used to raw accuracy and achieved velocities.

Donavan, since you've been using it for a little while now, would you recommend a RL-16 starting load different from your evaluation article? I'll give you my specs for reference.

I am seeing lots and lots of LR loads with the 105/108/115 class bullets, so there is nothing much I can add there. But, the prairie dog bug hit me hard this year and I had a 1-12 twist Dasher chambered up in a .272 neck and .104 freebore. I would have went with a zero FB, but didn't want to wait for a reamer.

I only tried two bullets...the 58 and 65 grain V-MAX in Lapua brass and CCI 450 primers and H335.
Sarted low and went all the way up to 37 grain with the 65. Found a GREAT node at 35 grains at 3600. Now, this is a dog load and I did zero fine tuning, worked in 1/2 grain incruments, but it printed itty bitty groups at 35....good enough. Was told that Quickload puts this at around 51500 PSI (not CUP).

Again started low with the 58 V-MAX. I took it all the way up to 40 grains( again, in 1/2 grain incruments...no fine tuning). Found a node at 38 and 39.5. Settled on 38 G at 4000 FPS (Quickload 65000 PSI).

Hope this helps, as I didn't find much out there for slow twist/light bullet info.

PS...I am also working with Varget/70 NBT's in my eight twist 6-47L and H4350/100NBT's in my eight twist 6.5 WSSM. None of my 8 twist 6mm's would keep the V Maxes together!!!

Today, I had a chance to try David Tubb's new 115gr. rebated boat tail bullets in my Dasher. I shot some three shot groups with H4895 and Varget. After deciding that the H4895 showed a slight accuracy edge, I shot a 10-shot group over an Oehler 35 chronograph. The temperature was ~80 degrees and the wind was light (4-6 mph) from right to left. I did not set up wind flags.

The rifle is my BAT/Leonard with Brux 8 twist that is 28 inches long. The scope is a Sightron III 10X-50X and I shot at 100 yards. The load was 31.5 gr. of H4895/Fed 205 primer and the Tubb bullet seated to jump about .005". I did not think that the 8 twist was fast enough for the 1.364 " RBT bullet. David reports the G1 BC as .64 out to 1000 yards. Below is the 10-shot group that measured .355 and averaged 2862 fps with a standard deviation of 7. Good shooting....James

My 10"t dasher didnt like RL-15 or varget. Showed signs of pressure early and often even with 68gr bullets except with very light charges and since i want to shoot 87gr VMAXs anyway i thought id better try slower powders. the Berger load manual shows N150 and W760 and H414. Well i didnt have any of those but what i did have was CFE223 which is right between the faster and slower powders(my 22-250 loves it) so i put together a ladder and shot it at 300y. Found a node between 35.5 and 36.1 (.3 increments)with not much vertical (1/4 inch for all three rounds) at @ 3250+ fps. And that seems fast to me but the highest load was a max charge and it was at 3400. So the testing will continue. Any advice would be appreciated

RL16 is sort of between Rl15/Varget and H4350. It's a bulky powder and fills up a case fast, good bad or otherwise, but a very good powder well worth trying.

i started at 31.4 grains, based on what others around me are shooting. found the load I usually at 32.8 grains. Barrel sped up a bit after break in and i5 seems like the 2nd firing on the brass is a tiny bit faster as well. I ended up dropping my charge to 32.2. Sd is under 5 from 31.1 to 31.4

last group measured 2.76 inches at 1100 yards. this rifle was built for PRS use and will likely never see a bench. But I can definately see how this barrel would probably do well.

Been lurking a while, gents.

Have a couple of questions that are kind of off subject.

Have any of you shot the Dasher in a shorter barrel? I'm thinking 18"-22".

If you have, what velocities have you been getting with 95s, 105s, 110s, etc?

I'm planning on building a short(er) Dasher rifle that will be suppressed 90% of the time. It will be used for PRS style and long range rucking type matches.
