6mm Dasher Factory Brass

What are the chances of Lapua, Norma or someone else making Dasher Brass? The 6XC is available now- why not the Dasher?

Are there fewer people shooting the Dasher than other semi-obscure rounds? Obviously we don't have all numbers available to the marketing teams but I wonder what it takes to tip the balance. It would be great if we could get the Dasher as factory brass.

I second someone making Dasher brass, I knew going in to my new build it was gonna be some work, took me more than a few hours to COW 100 pieces of brass.

I'm putting information together for my next build and the Dasher would be perfect, except for the fire-forming.

I may be wrong but it seems there would be a lot of people like myself, who aren't interested in the added time and cost of loading and then shooting cases just to form, who don't want the extra wear on the barrel and who won't have another barrel just for forming brass.

Has anyone heard anything from any industry personnel?

Lol's.. not that it wouldn't be great to have someone make factory Dasher brass.... but then i think, 1- you'd have a lot more match competition
2- someone would find something else to build off of that brass .. think of the possibilities
interesting... ;)

Agreed, there would be a lot more people running a Dasher if Lapua made brass for it. I remember reading here about a year ago while contemplating a dasher build that someone posted "welcome to the world of the 6MM Dasher, its not for everyone"

Frank

"welcome to the world of the 6MM Dasher, its not for everyone". Exactly. And neither as the 6xc before brass and loaded ammo became available. I certainly don't think that one post on one shooter's forum will make the big component manufacturers re-tool for new brass, but it sure would be nice.

Sure would.

It's taken lots of time, effort and money to get one popular manufacturer to commit to production of 'factory' brass for the 6HAGAR cartridge. Most recent, reliable report is it's gonna happen early next year.

I have no idea how hard it was or how long Bill Alexander had to work to get factory brass into production for the 6.5 Grendel & that was at a time when commodity metals weren't as pricey as now.

Given that it's relatively easy to make Dasher brass out of available parent stock, my surmise is that yes there's a market for factory brass but probably a small one if most Dasher shooters are more willing to DIY than maybe pay a premium.

Thats definitely how it looks. Unfortunate really, when you consider the cost of base cases, powder and other components, time, wear on barrel etc it would seem a lot less expensive to just buy Dasher brass.

And take all the fun of fireforming away from the sport?......Never :)
Wayne.

P.S how about 6brx factory brass as long as were asking :D

That is given that the cost would be the same, which is not reality. Use the 300/7 SAUM and Nosler as the example. 300 SAUM is $1/case, 7 SAUM is $2/case.

So, Dasher brass could be a reality, but at $1.80 each...

I think it has to do with the shoulder angle. Arne Brennan once told me that it's hard to make 40 degree brass, that's why there is 220 Russian and no PPC brass.

dont forget that 280 AI brass (40* shoulder) is being made everyday....and .284/300 WSM's etc. is almost 40* (35*)----(PPC is 30*)....roger

Even then, I would think they would make PPC brass before they made 6 Dasher brass.

This brings up another question. Dasher is formed from 6 BR brass, which in itself is a pretty popular cartridge. But why is there no PPC brass? They still make 220 Russian eventhough is no where near as popular as the PPC.

I agree....and think we must be barking up the wrong tree....maby we should be talking to Winchester.....they might be willing to make the 6mm BR and Dasher brass....their brass quality has been very good for the last few yrs since they got to doing all the government brass production.....I am using their brass in 22-250 -243- and 06 with practically no case failures and they will take the pressure just like the imported brass.....although they look a lil "rough" in the bag....once you get the necks rounded out with an expaneder ball it is smooth sailing after that.....and they are an american co. (insert flag waving here!!).....if we would make an effort with WW to make em we might get some results...Roger

This was mentioned some time back, and I thought it was a great idea. If Dasher brass was made available, I would sure like to see it with a long neck. Say the same length as the BR. Might make my decision to go with the Dasher a bit easier.

Fatts....WW has been toying around with a 22-250 length series of ctgs in 22-6mm-6.5-30 cal ....a Super X line of ctgs ...all with long necks-30 degree shoulder-min body taper and large primer pockets .....finally something new and usefull from an american co......time will tell....Roger

I think it will depend on shooter/customer input --the bean counters run the world....another beautyiful thing about this series of ctgs is they all have the same headspace/datum line/headspace guage (like the 243-260-7mm08-308 family) and you cant chamber a larger cal ctg in a smaller cal chamber and if you would accidentally put a smaller cal ctg in the larger chamber it would rattle harmlessly down the bbl. while simply fire forming the bigger ctg!!!.....you wuld hav a 22 cal live varimint choice ,,a 6mm long range world class ctg...a 30 cal legal hunter class ctg,,,what more culd u ask....Roger
