6mm custom rifle

If you were having a custom rifle built for bench rest and varmit shooting, what calibre would you choose? I know it will be fitted in a McMillan A5 stock, but I am undecided in calibre. As the title suggests I'm thinking about a 6mm BR variant like a Dasher or a XC. What are you opinions?
Thanks, josh.

6XC for simplicity sake, 6 dasher or other 6br variant if you like to fireform and tinker. JME. WD

6 XC without a doubt. Great off the shelf brass and super easy to tune. No fire forming, or case modification needed. At least that's my experience.

Sadly, the days of benchrest competitions being populated with varmint rifles are long gone. Competitive bench guns are now tenderly cared-for specialty pieces of equipment which don't spend time in the field. It can (and IMO should) be otherwise but that's just how the game is played.

Knowing what type of varmint you have in mind would help determine cartridge selection. High volume shooting such as gophers and prairie dogs would suggest a chambering with a smaller powder capacity to help extend barrel life. 6PPC and 6BR are examples. For lower volume shooting like coyote or groundhogs a higher capacity case would extend lethal range.
