6mm Wildcats

I would like any opinions and info on the 6mm-06 and 6mm-284. I am thinking about having a rifle assembled in either of these calibers. I mainly hunt coyotes and would like a little more punch than the 243ai I currently shoot. The action length difference is not an issue with me. Any info I can get would be appreciated.

I had a 240 weatherby which was an awesome 6mm round. If i had 2 do it again, i'd go with a 6mm REM AI. A 6mm-06 has too much capacity and you will only get about 100-150 fps more than the 6mm REM AI which isn't enough to make a difference.

Good Luck,

Chris

I don't understand why the 243AI isn't enough punch for you!! I shot one for a couple of years on coyotes and using a 70grBT was like hitting them with lightening.

I killed them out to 600yds with one shot using this combo. I now use a straight 243 with 65grVMAXs and its just as good. Most of our shots are in the 300yd on in but damn they drop like a rock.

I also sometimes use my 260rem with a 95vmax and it really does a job on them but tends to tear big holes in them if hit wrong. If you want something to just kill them try the 260 or a 6.5x47. Good luck in your quest!!

I sat on the fence with the 6-284 and opted for the 6mm AI. My un-acklied 6mm rem is shooting the 87 grain Vmax @ 3430 fps, so it will be interesting to see what kind of velocity I get out of the Acklied version.
