6MM coyote bullet

I got some 58 vmax i wanna give a shot just have not had a chance to use that rifle yet. I will say do not use a 108 eldm. Very messy and they run with stuff hanging out. Tried it 3 times and did not like what happened.

My hunting partners and I killed a lot of coyotes with a 60g Sierra Hp and 80g Sierra. The 80g Sierra has the loudest WHOP sound of any bullet I have ever shot, really puts a smile on your face. With both of these bullets, coyotes are laying in their tracks, even when you hit them in the stomach. They will also shoot through both hip joints if your leade is off on a running shot.

I have never killed a coyote with a 75g V max.

We shot quite a few with Berger 68s, which do a great job. I suspect that any 65-68g bullet made on a J4 jacket will do a good job on coyotes.

70g Nosler's are tougher than you would think, and I have a friend that kills deer with them on a regular basis with a 6 Gibbs.

When hunting in Mexico, we would kill 13-56 on a 3 day hunt. We were always playing with different bullets to see which ones would put them on the ground in a hurry and keep them there. Speed is key to effective killing with lung shots. Many people forget that you shoot coyotes from all directions on the body, coming and going. 243 Win, 12t, zero freebore is a supurb coyote rifle, along with the 6 Rem designed the same way where the 80s are doing 3400 and 3500 fps respectively on 26" barrels. The 22/250 AI with 55's doing 3050 is another extremely effective coyote killer.

The 6 Rem AI with 70g Nosler's doing 4100 out of 14T with zero freebore shoots tiny bug hole groups and just massacres coyotes. The same 6 AI shoots the 80g Sierra at 3800 fps with R#19 on 26", 14T. The same 70g Nosler will do 3800 in a 243 AI, 12-14t with zero freebore. If you go 243 AI, you darn sure better have a reamer designed for Lapua brass if you go that route, because Std SAAMI spec reamer in 243 and AI will not work with Lapua 243 Brass!

I am really not happy with Hornady's consistancy in both bullet dia and ogive lengths. For this reason, i would choose a Berger 68 or any benchrest bullet on a J4 Jacket. Sierra and Nosler bullet availability is a JOKE! There is a night and day difference between how a 68g Berger expands vs a 80g shot at their peak velocity/accuracy in the 243 Win.

If your shooting is mostly within 300 yards or so, the Barnes Varmint Grenade is pretty awesome. Seldom leaves an exit hole, if that is desired. Transfers so much shock, they seldom run off with a solid body hit, even if not well-placed.
