6mm BRX

Have a 6mm Br and been contemplating the BRX. For those of you who went this route, were you pleased with the results? What kind of velocities/accuracy can you get with a BRX and say, 70,80 and 95gr bullets. This would be for a varmint silhouette match @520yds max.

It’s probably my favorite cartridge. I’ve never shot anything lighter than 107 and those with RL16 will go 3060 without pressure.

I used a reamer with .030 freebore, 10T, 87g V max with H4895 with 7 1/2's are unbelievable. 70g TNT shoot bug holes also. 95g puts you in a different leage in terms of twist and freebore. I would throat according to what bullets you are going to shoot.

60g sierra with H335, 7 1/2's shoot tiny bug holes at 3850-4100 depending on the barrel length.

H335 with 7 1/2's work well with 55-70g bullets, exceptional with unbelievable barrel life. It seems like the best accuracy is right on the heels of a Max load for the rifle. Accuracy is unbelievable at 300 yards with the 55g Nosler(4050-4100, depending on barrel length) unless the wind is howling!

I have been shooting a pair of 6 brx's for about 12 years from 100 to 1000 yds. I have did a fair amount of winning. 107 Sierras will shoot consistantly in the ones at 100yds with good conditions. Easy to form cases. Free bore is important due to the short neck. Seat your bullet of choice in a dummy round so the pressure ring is half way up the neck. Then have your smith throat it so the lands are just making a tiny mark on the bullet. I most often shoot a bit into the lands. I have used the same powder,Varget, and bullet in every barrel. I have had 1 barrel I jumped bullets in. Average about 2000 rds per barrel. Usually about 1500 rds I will start to use the tuner to stay sharp.

The brx shooting 105/107 bullets will work good with 8 TW but I have two new barrels installed last year with 7 1/2 TW that seem to work a little better. I too have shot brx for 10 years and still use about the same load of Varget and 107 SMK over three different barrels. Good round.

The two barrels I am thinking of re-chambering are both 8 twist. Unfortunately, we are limited to 3200fps on calibers above 22 so as to prevent target damage. Right now I am using a 22br (1-12" twist) and 53vmax out to 300 meters and a 60gr TMK or a 62 bthp, for the two longer targets

It's a good cartridge. I did some fireforming and really just wanted to get an idea of what this new setup would do. A varmint gun, barrel is 14 twist / 4 groove, 23" long. These were shot at 75yds due to conditions at the range. And 2 shot groups....after the 1st 2 shots I didn't need a third one and just kept shooting. It appears that this combo works just fine. Next time out I'll get more into it. The fireforming was done with a false shoulder, it can be very nicely accurate. This will be used on rockchucks and prairie dogs.

I love my 6BRX but I've only used it for 103gr to 108gr bullets in 1:8 twist to 1:7.5 twist which I've used for last few barrels
I tired the 6BRA for a few barrels but went back to the 6BRX as it just works and I found easier to run
I've had about 4 barrels or so now and easy to tune with and I've use both 2208/varget and 2209/H4350 which both just work
I'm shooting about 35.5gr of H4350 atm at 2995fps with 150FB with 108gr bergers and about the same with 107gr SMK at 3007fps, I was about 32.5gr of varget with 105gr hybrids at 3000fps
I did run 87gr vmaxs with varget at one time for a bit of fun but i cant find my load data for them, out of a 1:8 twist barrel

Great cartridge. Shot 88's to 105's amazingly accurate and easy to tune.

What's your point? BRX is the same thing, load and shoot. You have a BRX case. 90 % of the guns I beat are Bras or Dashers.

BRX, Dasher, BRDX all move the shoulder forward. That requires hydro-forming or fire-forming to create the new Shoulder.

With the BRA you just load the original 6mmbr brass, put it in the BRA chamber and you are done. Some guys will do that during a match, so there is no lost barrel life.

Hydro forming adds an unnecessary step, I don't understand it for the BRX at all. Yes, the first shot with the BRX moves the shoulder, second firing if you do the first properly is MATCH ready. I doubt many competitive BRA shooters go to a match without firing the case once previously. No advantage either way that I see. Once your on your second barrel with either you have a slave barrel to firestorm. Or, smarter yet use your fouled shots to do the first firing. By the end of the season your cases for next year are preformed, that is what I have started to do. No extra shots down a good barrel.The BRX has been good to me for a long time, I will not back down, lol. Remember, you also have altered the shoulder in the BRA.

I have a 6BR, a BRDX (very similar to Dasher, slightly longer neck), and a 6 BRA. With the BRDX I would lose the occasional case and “blow lengths“ were not as consistent as hoped. The BRA is just easier and more consistent. I like retaining the neck. But the BRX is certainly a proven and effective wildcat.

I have fireformed 3x at matches with my bra. Won 2 of them with 1199-76x and 1199-77x by simply using an old accuracy load for my 6br. ff loads were shooting in the high 1’s-low 2’s. Good enough for midrange f class- but maybe not for br....

I was very pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of my BRX fireform loads. No idea about the velocity and still more work to be done. But as is, shoot-em-in-the-eye accuracy for varmints.
