6mm BR for 600 BR

I’d give anything to have BR in SE Idaho with mentors. Our club primarily have sling shooters but I do f class. I usually compete with 1-2 people is all.

While raising a family in the military I didn't have time for match shooting. Weekends were for family time (if I did not have to work the weekend or was away on duty).

I can also remember my parents remarking about my generation being self centered and lazy and not wanting to take on responsibility (I was a teen in the late 60's). Anti-establishment was the big thing in my day. Back then many pushed for communes and such. As far as I can tell nothing has changed much.

I think it is just a 'normal' thing for the 'older and wiser' generations to see the young as irresponsible and impulsive. And, yes, it was/is 'our' job to raise the next generation to be better than us. If they are not, then we need to take part of the blame for it.

Why not BR for younger people? Expensive. I don't see many young people spending that much money on their hobby unless there is someone else helping them along. Many might be able to buy something off the shelf that would be competitive in local PRS matches or informal shoots so that is where they go.

PRS is more about stabilizing rifle in stupidly uncomfortable positions than it is about shooting. If you do your DOPE right it’s not a huge shooting challenge, the targets are usually 1moa larger.

PRS people do differ mentally from BR an F-class people.

I dont disparage anyone for the game they choose. We are all built differently. If your hand doesnt start shaking a little and your heart rate doesnt go up on that 5th shot because the first 4 are in the same hole BR may not be for you. You just have to love small groups. Some like score, some like steel. Doesnt matter to me. I keep saying BR is a small niche but a very important one, the tip of the spear. And thats ok. To make it appeal to everyone you would need to dilute it.

No matter what discipline anyone chooses the main thing they enjoy what they do. At the end of the day if people don't make the sport fun no one will want to join no matter the age, height or body shape.

Years ago when I started LR BR no one could tell me that no turn was as accuarate as turned necks. So I opted for a .268 neck reamer for my 6BR. At that time some of the best 600 and 1000 yard shooters were shooting no turn .272 Dashers, BRX’s, and BR’s. Those shooters included some record holders including Richard Schatz, Mike Davis, Rodney Wagner, Mark Shronce and some others. A few years after doing well with the BR I decided to play with the Dasher and BRX. The BRX was a .272 neck. Even though it was a no turn chamber, I still turned the necks just enough to make the necks completely...

I just won the NBRSA 3 Gun (One of the most coveted titles in Short range Benchrest). I was shooting a no turn neck with my 6PPC. Also made the World Team.

Younger, newer shooters don't want to do the work. It's why traditional br is going away. Plus the influence of video games. So almost as accurate is good enough. I laugh reading about mandrels and associated problems every time they load. Turn the necks, then load it 20 times or more, no problems, accurate ammunition. My parents taught me many years ago, going with the crowd doesn't make it the right choice.

Your right as real accuracy has left many of the shooting disciplines.

I believe the opposite to be true.
But staying on topic, I think the 103-105 class boat tail VLD are well suited to the 6br and 600 yard shooting as well as the 107 & 108 boat tail tangent ogive.
For 1000 yard br I would suggest that Custom 103-105 gr VLD bullets are not much more expensive than production bullets and certainly prove their value at long range.

I agree, they want you to give them all the answers to all there questions about shooting , testing, loading, and not spend there time working on all of it. They want instant success without the work being put in it.
