6mm BR and H4350???

I use H4350 for my fire forming load with Lapua from 6BR to 6BRA. With 31.9 gn behind a 107SMK I'm getting 2776, ES = 9 and very nice groups at 600. On average, these FF loads have been more accurate than my "regular" N150/107SMK 6BRA loads, enough so that I'm going to look at working up an H4350 load and duplicate these results and maybe see if I can get to the 2850-ish node.

Today, I did 3, 5 shot groups with H4350 and Hornady 105s. 32.5, 32.6 and 32.7 gns. All 3 groups were 1/2" and under so it can work. I think Gordon's has it at about a 90% burn so it isnt the best choice, but it does shoot well enough.
That load i could just barely hear crunch so I'm going to keep adding powder til I run out of space and try to tighten it up some.

I checked my load data. 32.5 grains of H4350 with wolf SRM primer and berger 105 hunting VLD jammed .015 ITL produced 1/4" at 100 yards and average velocity of 2809 fps. I went up to 33.3 grains at 2869 fps average and havent gone any higher yet.

Ok, went to the 600 yd range this morning. Got my Lab radar working and got some velocity readings. A little disappointing on my FPS but I think I need to find a higher node for my best results at 1000 yds.

With 29.0 gr of H4350 and a 108 Berger I was getting 2431 (avg) and 30.0 grs was 2508 FPS.

With 30 grs of Varget I was 2850 FPS.

When running these numbers in a ballistic calculator it gave me 1187 FPS and 1225 FPS at 1000 yds.

Our shotmarker targets need at lease 1250FPS at the target to register on the target.

These readings maybe to slow.

My next step is to find the next higher node of the barrel by increasing the amount of powder.

Anyone know what the max gr's for H4350 are before a compressed load for 6mm BA Norma?

I did test up to 30.4 grs, but think I should go to 31.0 to see if I get the next node.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks in advance.
Wouldn’t it be easier for you to pour powder into a fired case and drop in your bullet and find the point of compression? Of course you’ll back off slightly because of sized case difference vs fired but it’ll be realistic using your brass and bullet combination.

OK, update.

The temps were in the high 30's today to to the range I went.

Using H4350, 108 Bergers.

29.0 gr = 2434 FPS avg.
30.0 gr = 2554 FPS avg
31.0 gr = 2609 FPS avg.

My target FPS is 2800-2850

Looks like I will need to be in the 32.0-33.0 gr to get to 2800 Avg.

Looks like nicer weather this weekend

Larry.

I used to run at 2760 with 4166. It's a great accuracy node for the BR. I'm currently using 30g of Varget, but wondering why I need the extra velocity ( he said contemplating H4895 with 95g SMK as an alternative...)

I know I can use Varget and I have, but right now Varget is $70.00 a pound. I have 24 Lb's of H4350 under my bench right now.

I need to be at least 2850 fps at the muzzle for our electronic target at 1,000 yds to work. FPS at 1,000 yds needs to be 1200 FPS or higher.

I was gifted a bunch of powder including 18lbs of H4350. I tried running it in my Dasher but wasn't happy using a drop tube. I want to try my hand at PRS so I put together a used 6GT to burn the H4350 powder. My first load work up is looking really good! It's looking like my rig has a nice node near 2825 with 107 MKs. I'm 1/2 MOA without seating depth tested done. I just picked a random OAL that looked like the bullet boattail junction was just above the neck shoulder junction in the case. It is about 0.110 off the lands in my rig.

Might want to spin on a 6GT barrel, you can easily get up into the 2900's with no signs of pressure. Just another option to ponder.

Cheers,
Toby

Well, another test done.
H4350, 108 Burgers.
Today shot the following:
31.4 gr = 2676 FPS
31.8 gr = 2685 FPS
32.0 gr = 2721 FPS

I did not see any stress on the brass or primers.

Next is to work my way to 33.0 gr. and see what I get.

I think I'm going to end up around 32.8 gr to get to 2800 +
Thanks spudgun. It seems assured the velocity will get there. Is Your accuracy still equal to the powders You loaded with before ?

Well, I have not done any data for accuracy.

I figured that I would wait until I get the velocity I need and then work around the load for the best node and accuracy.

That looks like maybe spring time because it is damn cold up here.

OK, tested 2 new loads.

H4350, 108 Bergers.

32.5 gr = 2752 FPS AVG
33.0 gr = 2804 FPS AVG.

Looks like if I go 33.5 Gr I will be in my 2850 FPS area.

My only concern is it looks like it's going to be a compressed load. 33.0 filled the case up pretty much to the top.

I'm going to work around 33.5 gr for a accuracy node.

Happy New Year
